We completed an unbeaten weekend with college hoops pics and enter the new week on a nice 3-0 ATS run. Xavier gave us one of the easiest victories of the year as they absolutely hammered Dayton in a rivalry game that meant more to the Flyers (Xavier would consider Cincinnati their chief rival, and now have a Big East schedule) but certainly went the way of the Muskies. We will try to keep it rolling this week with the Big Ten/ACC Challenge and a bevy of other great matchups.
Tonight’s schedule is a little light, but there are a few interesting games on the docket. Fresno State takes a very flimsy 5-0 to 6-0 Oregon, Western Carolina, who already beat Wisconsin in Madison heads to 6-0 South Carolina and Illinois State tries to erase a disappointing 3-4 start with a miracle win at Kentucky. I’m not banking on ANY of those upsets coming to fruition, but for the mid-major lover, you are getting a ton of points in each scenario (I’d be most amenable to Fresno St. covering, with Illinois State and 20 a possibility if UK is without Ulis).
Other than that, you have Clemson vs. Minnesota in a less-than-delicious ACC/Big 10 appetizer. Frankly, you need to be a die-hard to be all-in today… and fortunately I am. So let’s grab a fourth straight winner.

Today’s Free Pick:
LSU Tigers -5 at College of Charleston
The Tigers are sure to fall out of the national polls when the ranking are released today, but their two losses, by one to an improving Marquette team and a close loss to a decent NC State team aren’t the end of the world. LSU will struggle often this year, despite the brilliance of Ben Simmons, but I expect both he and the team to get better all year long.
College of Charleston is a good midmajor program, but they are a mid-major program nonetheless. The difference in the team athleticism will be stark as compared to Marquette and NC State. The point being, I don’t think they will have enough size and strength to deal with Simmons tonight. This line feels a little slimmer than it should be. I’d lay eight at least with LSU tonight. CofC has losses to Davidson and Coastal Carolina and a one-point win over Western Carolina. I know I mentioned their stunning upset over Wisconsin earlier, but it is still a 2-3 team picked last in their conference.
This is a good chance for LSU to get back to winning basketball. I like Simmons to play well today and for him to avoid the foul trouble that slowed him against NC State. C of C won’t have the same pressure to apply to Simmons on the defensive end. Expect him to play 35 minutes and to put up monster numbers.
