We notched another college hoops winner last night with the Texas Longhorns storming back to cover in the final few minutes at Baylor. The outcome of the game was never in jeopardy as the Longhorns’ season from hell (and Shaka’s warming hot seat) continue, but we weren’t trying to call a massive upset, just trying to cash in on the cushion of a giant pile of points – and did.
The slate is pretty packed tonight with some excellent matchups, highlighted by the Notre Dame at Florida State tilt for temporary control of first place in the wacky, loaded, parity-driven ACC. The rest of the games don’t have as much glamour, but if you like games that mean a LOT for teams far exceeding standard program expectations, TCU at Texas Tech is about as good as it gets. Both have high-profile coaches trying to elevate long-suffering programs into the realm of Big Twelve elites. Neither is quite on par with Kansas yet, but both ARE considerably better than Texas and Oklahoma this season and possess serious NCAA Tournament expectations. Tonight’s game is HUGE for the victor.
Let’s see if we can keep it rolling tonight. We are 6-2-1 ATS in our last nine games and 10-3-1 ATS in our last 14 to keep a 46-25-1 ATS dynamite season on track.
Today’s Free Pick:
Miami Hurricanes at Wake Forest Demon Deacons -1
Wake is at home. Miami is better. Which way to go?
I’ll take the better team tonight. Miami answered a lot of questions I had about them in the last week with their hard-fought, well-played loss to Notre Dame and their absolute demolishing of Pitt on the road. The Pitt game showed they can win away from home against quality teams and I think tonight will reinforce it. Miami has four losses, but all but the Syracuse road blip were against really good teams.
Wake Forest has been getting better under Danny Manning but at 10-7 and 1-4 in the ACC, they are still one of the two or three teams that NCAA Tourney hopefuls, like Miami, just can’t afford to lose against. Wake has been competitive in their two home losses against North Carolina and Clemson, but they are losses nonetheless.
This game is a basic pick em, and I’ll take the Canes. If I can get a point or two, great. If it’s even, give me the better team playing better basketball.
