NHL Predictions and Free Picks for December 29th:

Pittsburgh Penguins @ Buffalo Sabres – The Penguins come into tonight after a very disappointing loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday night, while Buffalo snuck by St.Louis thanks to two 3rd period goals to top the Blues 3-2.  This is the beginning of a 4 game road trip for the Penguins after they have dropped 2 of their last 3 at home.  Tonight should be a great goalie duel, however Buffalo will be without star forward Derek Roy once again with an upper-body injury.  Both Teams are hot coming into this one, with Pittsburgh going 6-3-1 in their last 10, while Buffalo is 6-2-2 during the same ten-game span.  I lean towards Pittsburgh tonight in the battle of future olpympic goaltenders in Buffalo.

Free Pick – PENGUINS to win at -110

Columbus Blue Jackets @ New York Islanders – The Blue Jackets snapped a 9 game losing streak last night as they snuck kby the Detroit Red Wings in overtime on home ice thanks to a nice individual effort by forward Frederik Modin.  The Islanders are coming off of a 2-1 home loss to Philadelphia on Sunday, and haven’t scored more than 3 goals in a game in over a month.  The Jackets have limited the Islanders goal scoring in the past, having given up only 26 goals in 10 meetings overall against these Islanders.  The Jackets have had past success against the Islanders, and I look for that to continue tonight as a road underdog.

Free Pick – BLUE JACKETS to win at +110

Nashville Predators @ St.Louis Blues – This is the 3rd of 6 meetings this year, with each team winning 3-1 on the road earlier this season.  This is Nashville 3rd game in 4 nights, losing their last meeting to Chicago 5-4 at the United Centre in Illinois.  St. Louis dropped a 4-2 decision to the Buffalo Sabres on Sunday to open a 4-game homestand.  The Predators are 7-5-1 within the Central division, and have scored 4 or more goals in 13 of their last 21 games.  The Preds look to put some space between themselves and the Blues, who are only 4 points out of the basement in the Central Division.  I like Nashville tonight also as a road underdog.

Free Pick – PREDATORS to win at +105
