NHL Predictions and Free Picks December 7th:

New Jersey Devils vs. Buffalo Sabres – The New Jersey Devils come into this one with a 10-2-1 record on the road, which sits right near the top of the NHL.  After failing to show up last Wednesday against the Canucks, the Devils won consecutive games on Friday and Saturday, both one goal decisions over the Tampa Bay Lightning and Detroit Red Wings.  Buffalo had a 4-game win streak snapped on Saturday, as Henrik Lundqvist stood tall for the Rangers to knock off the Sabres 2-1 at HSBC arena in Buffalo.  These two teams have almost identical numbers as they both average around 2.7 goals per game, and average about 2.2 against each.  The Devils also sit 5 points ahead of the Sabres in the Eastern Conference standings.  I look for New Jersey to continue their winnings ways on the road.

Free Pick – Devils to win at +105 – Place your bets at Bodog.com

Washington Capitals vs. Tampa Bay Lightning – This is the first of 6 meetings between these two this season, as Washington swept all 6 games last year, scoring at least 4 goals in every contest.  Alexander Ovechkin returns to the Capitals lineup after missing the last two games due to suspension.  Just about everyone in a Capitals jersey is hot as of late, as the Caps scored 14 goals in their last two games without Ovechkin.  The Lightning snapped a 4-game losing skid on Saturday over the Islanders.  The Lightning’s penalty killing sank to 27th overall in the NHL, due to 7 powerplay goals given up during their 4-game losing streak.  At least 6 total goals were scored in all 6 meetings last year.

Free Pick – Capitals to win at -145 – Place your bets at Bodog.com

Philadelphia Flyers vs. Montreal Canadiens – The Philadelphia Flyers look to get new head coach Peter Laviolette his first win behind the bench after the Flyers were thumped 8-2 by Washington in his Flyer coaching debut.  After losing 6-2 to Buffalo, the Canadiens beat the Boston Bruins on Friday night 5-1 with Mike Cammalleri notching a hat trick on the Habs 100th Anniversary game.  The Flyers average right around 3 goals for per game, compared to Montreal’s 2.3, while both teams have a goals against per game of around 2.8.  This is the first meeting between these two this year, with the over going 3-1 in 4 meetings last year.  I look for more goals tonight at the Bell Centre.
