NHL Predictions and Free Picks January 9th

Tonight, January the 9th, sees 12 games on the night slate in the NHL to finish off what has been a very exciting week on the ice.  Tonight’s featured games include the New Jersey Devils traveling to the Bell Centre in Montreal to take on the Montreal Canadiens, the Calgary Flames are in Vancouver to battle the division-rival Canucks, and the Tampa Bay Lightning are in the city of brotherly love to take on the Philadelphia Flyers.  Be sure to keep up on the continued action this week and month in the NHL, and also be sure to get your FREE NHL predictions and picks below.

NHL Predictions and Free Picks January 9th:

New Jersey Devils @ Montreal Canadiens – Montreal comes into this game tonight having won just 1 of their last 5 games at the Bell Centre, and the Devils have a road record which is near the top in the NHL.  New Jersey is almost certainly going to start Martin Brodeur in his home town tonight, who won his last decision in Montreal 3-1 to tie Patrick Roy’s all time wins record.  The Devils are 29-9-3 in their last 41 meetings with Montreal overall, and 6-2 in their last 8 games at the Bell Centre in Montreal.  I like New Jersey to remain hot on the road this season, especially after going 13-3 in 16 Saturday games this season.  Take the Devils on the road.

Free Pick – New Jersey to win (-140)

Calgary Flames @ Vancouver Canucks – The Flames come into tonight’s action after dropping a 3-2 decision to Columbus last night on home ice, but Calgary has solid numbers coming into tonight’s action in Vancouver.  Calgary is 6-1 in their last 7 Saturday games, 5-1 in their last 6 as an underdog, and 5-1 in their last 6 as a road underdog.  The Canucks have won 4 in a row overall, but if their is a team to beat them on home ice is has to be the divisional-rival Calgary Flames.  Take the Flames as a big road underdog tonight in Vancouver.

Free Pick – Calgary to win (+150)

Tampa Bay Lightning @ Philadelphia Flyers – This is the 3rd meeting of the season between Philly and Tampa, and their has been a total of 15 goals scored between the first two games this season.  The Flyers are 5-0 against teams outside of the playoffs as of late.  Tampa Bay has managed to win only 6 games on the road this season, while Philly just regained the best powerplay in the NHL at a 23.4% efficiency rate.  Over is 4-1 in the Flyers last 5 overall, and 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.  Over is also 8-3-1 in the last 12 meetings between these two in Philadelphia, which makes me lean towards another high-scoring affair tonight in Philadelphia.

Free Pick – Over 5.5 goals (-125)
