Today (Saturday October 3rd) marks the third day of the NHL regular season, and the first game of the season for some teams. All 30 teams are in action tonight, with some great looking match ups on the board. The trend of the NHL so far has been the underdogs winning, with the underdogs going 5-1 before last night’s two games (where Pittsburgh and Philly won). The Sports Geek is 4-4 so far this NHL season with picks, and we look to improve to an above .500 record on tonight’s games. Check out our NHL preview and predictions/picks for four of the Saturday October 3rd 2009 NHL games.
Philadelphia Flyers vs New Jersey Devils – Philly looked solid in their season opener last night in Carolina as they blanked the Hurricanes 2-0. New Jersey shouldn’t be as good as they have been in previous years, and may even struggle to find the playoffs this year. The Flyers are underdogs in this game at +105 on the money line.
Bet Flyers to win at +105 (www.Bodog.com)
Toronto Maple Leafs vs Washington Capitals – Both teams have played a game already on Thursday night. The Leafs lost in OT to Montreal 4-3, while the Capitals easily beat the Bruins on the road 4-1. Both teams showed they can score, and Toskala hasn’t looked great.
Bet Over 6 total goals at -120 (www.Bodog.com)
Calgary Flames vs Edmonton Oilers – Calgary won their NHL opener against the Canucks 4-3 on Thursday night, looking good offensively doing so. The Edmonton Oilers have a new bench boss, as Pat Quinn looks to change things around in Edmonton. This should be a tight game tonight at the Rexall Place, I am going with the value.
Bet Flames to win at -105 (www.Bodog.com)
San Jose Sharks vs Anaheim Ducks – Anaheim opens their season tonight at home, looking for a good start as they begin their quest for the cup. The Sharks had a surprising 5-2 loss in Colorado on Thursday night in their NHL season opener. Both team has a lot of offensive power, and it should come out in tonight’s game.
Bet Over 5.5 at +100 (www.Bodog.com)
