Oleg Nikiforov vs. Viktor Ivanov Pick – Moscow Liga Pro May 2, 2020

If you’re looking for some early morning, late evening table tennis action then Russia has what you need. The Moscow Liga Pro, which never seems to take a break, is offering up another card on Saturday from Moscow. Russia is currently going through a big surge of new Covid-19 cases, but you wouldn’t know it if you looked at the table tennis lineup in the Liga Pro. It doesn’t really matter what time it’s at, there always seems to be action on the table tennis courts in Russia. For the purposes of our Friday selection, we’ll be taking a look at a 2:15 a.m. EST matchup between Oleg Nikiforov and Viktor Ivanov in the Moscow Liga Pro.

Our cash cow, the Czech TT Star Series, doesn’t play on weekends, so it’s off to Russia looking to cash a ticket. We were able to win another table tennis pick in the Czech TT Star Series on Wednesday. Tomas Konecny came through for us after getting behind by two sets in his match against Miroslav Horejsi.

With our seven-match winning streak coming to an end, Konecny was able to get us right back on track. With that win, our table tennis record improved to 28-17. There’s nothing to complain about with a record like that. It’s best to be patient and not go overboard on picking random matchups.

It’s easy to get carried away with all of the matches on the board, but you still need to do your homework on matches you’re betting on. Treat every match like any other game and you’ll be fine. Matches can take under 30 minutes to complete as well, so it’s tempting to unload on multiple matches throughout the day.

Chasing losses on table tennis can turn into a mess real quick. For more table tennis tips, be sure to check out our recent summary over at the blog. With some patience and research, you can turn what most people in North America refer to as an obscure sport, into a money maker during the sports lockdown. Oleg Nikiforov vs. Viktor Ivanov Prediction:

There are a lot of players in the Moscow Liga Pro, but Viktor Ivanov is not a stranger to us. We’ve bet on him a couple of times thus far, once as an underdog and another time as a favorite. Fortunately, Ivanov was a winner for us in both instances. He’s a fairly solid player and is probably in the mid-tier of talent in the Liga Pro. However, Ivanov is trying to get over the hump to try and compete with some of the top players. Oleg Nikiforov has certainly been playing one of them recently.

Nikiforov has been red-hot on the court with wins in eight out of his last nine outings for a record of 8-1. Since April 27, Nikiforov has been a tough opponent to beat, as he’s gone 16-5 in his previous 21 matches. That includes four straight wins against Ivanov. Nikiforov has beaten Ivanov 3-2, 3-1, 3-1, 3-2 in four matches. He also owns an overall record of 8-4 over Ivanov in their careers. Their most recent meeting was a close one, with Nikiforov taking five sets to down Ivanov. The final set wasn’t competitive, though, as Nikiforov controlled Ivanov for a 11-5 win.

Ivanov heads into Saturday with a record of 3-3 in his previous six outings. He’s also gone 8-8 in his previous 16 matches for a mediocre stretch. The implied odds suggest that Nikiforov has around a 65% chance of winning this match. However, he’s been even better than that with a success rate of 69% as a -210 favorite. Nikiforov has been able to find a weakness in Ivanov’s game and he’s exploiting it recently. That should continue at the table tennis courts in Russia on Saturday.
