The last time these two met, the Denver Broncos were a surprising division leader and now they are a team just trying to hang on to a potential wild-card berth. The Broncos (8-5) would move a step closer to ending a four-year playoff drought with a win over the Raiders this Sunday. They had a strong performance against the Raiders on September 27th of this year with a 23-3 win under newly hired head coach Josh McDaniels. Denver is struggling with the injury bug and has five losses in their last seven games. However, Denver still leads the AFC’s wild-card race by one game over Miami, New York, Baltimore and Jacksonville. They are two games back of San Diego in the AFC West title race. The Chargers will win the division with a win of their own this week and a Broncos loss. The Raiders (4-9) are turning the quarterback position over to Charlie Fyre. Last weeks starter Bruce Gradkowski tore his MCL in both of his knees last week against the Washington, a true shame as he was playing extremely well going 2-2 as a starter and leading two comeback wins over Cincinnati and Pittsburgh. Frye is playing for his third team in three seasons and hasn’t thrown a regular season pass since October 12, 2008 while playing for Seattle. The Broncos are looking for their 23rd win in 30 matchups against the Raiders since their return to Oakland in 1995. They have won 11 of 14 home meetings in that span. Raiders vs Broncos Predictions:
Final Score Prediction – Denver 20 Oakland 14
Spread Prediction – Take Oakland to beat this spread. Oakland has been very inconsistent this year but has surprising wins over Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Cincinnati, all teams with potential playoff berths. Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall had a record-setting performance last week by catching an NFL record 21 receptions for a career-best 200 yards and two touchdowns in the loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Look for his stellar play to continue at home this week. Winning at mile high is not easy and I don’t think Charlie Fyre has quite what it takes. It’ll be closer than the odds-makers think, Oakland to beat this spread.
Over/Under- Take the under 37 total points in this Raiders/Broncos game. The Broncos have a serious dilemma at the running back position as Correll Buckhalter hasn’t practiced all week due to an ankle injury and LaMont Jordan is recovering from an ailing back. Also, standout rookie Knowshon Moreno, who leads all NFL rookies with 837 rushing yards, also has a banged up ankle. Without a running attack the Broncos are too one dimensional to put up serious points. Fyre will take some time getting into rhythm as the starter and as a result the offense will struggle. Bet the under.
