The 57th HP Byron Nelson Championship tournament kicks off on Thursday, May 19th. This PGA tour tournament is played at the TPC Four Seasons Resort GC, and has a purse of $6.5 Million, with just over $1 Million going to the winner. Last years Byron Nelson winner was South African Rory Sabbatini, who is amongst the favorites here in the 2010 tournament. For those interested in Golf Betting I have listed the betting odds, picks and predictions provided by Berky, our expert golf betting handicapper.
Golfers To Bet for the Byron Nelson Championship
Hunter Mahan (+1500) – Hunter lives right near this golf course and is the highest ranked player in the field this week. He has not played well here in the past, however that is going to change this week and Hunter will be in contention to win on Sunday.
J.B Holmes (+3000) – Everyone knows J.B. for his long ball, and he is 3rd in driving length on tour, however, J.B. has now developed a very efficient putting stroke to go along with his long ball. He is now rolling the flat stick with confidence and his 13th ranked putting shows just that.
Holmes has been knocking on the door for a PGA victory all year long, this week could be his time.
Heath Slocum (+3000) – Heath leads the tour in driving accuracy, is 12th in greens in regulation, and has a marvelous putting stroke. It just seems the nerves get to Heath a little on Sunday. If Heath continues to put himself in contention on Sundays, he is too good of player not to win one soon.
Rickie Fowler (+3000) – Rickie has had an outstanding start to his rookie season with already four top10’s under his belt. He is also the highest ranked rookie in the FedEx Cup standings. This kid has a fearless swing and strikes the ball pure and long. I really think Rickie is going to get a win this year as a rookie and this week at Nelson he will be in the thick of things.
Charlie Hoffman (+3000) – Early in the season Charlie was plagued with injuries and just couldn’t get into a groove. With top 20’s in his last two starts the unique Hoffman seems to be healthy again and seems to be swinging the sticks with a lot more confidence. Look for Charlie to keep it rolling this week at the Nelson.
Player To Avoid
Kenny Perry (+4000) – Kenny just has not seemed to rebound after last year’s devastating Masters playoff loss to Angel Cabrera. Perry always makes cuts but I just don’t see him winning a golf tournament any time soon. Look for Perry to have a solid week maybe even edging into the top 10, however with better options on the board, I would avoid choosing him to win the tournament out right.
