When no one is looking your way, it provides the best chance for a surprise attack.
That is exactly the opportunity that these long shots have this Saturday at the 143rd Belmont Stakes, and, although some would say it wouldn’t be smart betting on these horses, they provide the biggest chance at a huge betting payout if they do finish first. Below is a quick “Bet on Belmont Stakes Guide” and then our longshot horses for the race, along with a pick of who I’m going to wager on.

Belmont Longshot Betting Guide:
Everyone loves a Cinderella story, and American horseracing is no different. If one of these contenders were to win the final leg of the Triple Crown, they would truly capture the hearts of everyone in America.
So these horses have everyone rooting for them except the competition, but how do they fair against the field? Lets check out the longshot horses and the betting odds placed on them.
3. Ruler On Ice (20-1)–The biggest sleeper out of this group of colts is Ruler On Ice. Throughout his 2011 season, Ruler On ice has continued to finish near the top of every race he competes in; finishing third at Sunland Derby, a Grade III race, on March 27, and second on May 7 at Federico Tesio. Ruler On Ice’s jockey will be Jose Valdivia, Jr., which is hard to judge if it is a plus or minus. Valdivia has won 22 races in his 12-year career, and the Peruvian-born jockey will be in his first Triple-Crown race.
7. Monzon (30-1)–The biggest long shot next to Isn’t He Perfect, Monzon has done nothing but show why he does not deserve to be in this race, having never finished higher than fifth place all year. Monzon has great pedigree in his father Thunder Gulch, who won two-out-of-three Triple Crown races in 1995, including the Belmont Stakes. Monzon also has a legendary farm he will be representing in Sagamore Farm, but this might just be the softest competition they’ve put out onto the field in a while.
8. Prime Cut (20-1)–Prime Cut has been through his own set of difficulties, but will finally get a chance to race in a major competition on Saturday. His racing history is impressive with his worst finish coming in his maiden last June, when he finished fourth. He has raced in six races this year and has yet to miss the board once. At 20-1 betting odds, he is a great value considering his history on the track, and there is no doubt he will have fresh legs having not raced in either of the first two races.
11. Isn’t He Perfect (50-1)–Perhaps the longest shot to win at Belmont Park will be Isnt He Perfect. The horse has gotten better through his seven-month-long career, but will have to fight every odd in the book to win out over the other 3-year-old Thoroughbreds. Everyone loves betting the ultimate underdog and Isn’t He Perfect is just that at this year’s Belmont Stakes.
My Longshot Betting Pick: Out of this group, there is only one that looks to have a chance at making the board at the “Test of the Champions” come Saturday. Ruler On Ice has the best chance to surprise, possessing everything a horse needs to compete in a big race like the Belmont Stakes. If you are betting a longshot today I suggest taking a look at Ruler On Ice.
