Bet on Belmont Stakes Online Guide

The Belmont Stakes is here, but we won’t be looking to crown another Triple Crown winner, as Animal Kingdom came second by about half a length in the Preakness Stakes just a few weekends ago.  Nonetheless it will still be exciting race to bet on!

Below is our quick Belmont stakes online betting guide, for those looking to place wagers on the race over the internet.

Belmont Stakes Betting Favorites, Odds, Picks:

There will be no Triple Crown winner yet again, this being the 33rd year since the last winner, Affirmed, achieved the feat.

Animal Kingdom and jockey John Velazquez were close to winning their second of the three races, but finished second behind Shackleford by half a length. Velazquez corrected a rough start out of the gate to complete the race with a terrific ride.

But as impressive as that performance was, there aren’t many horses to consider in this race, making wagering choices difficult, especially for beginners. However, there are a few that do stand out above the rest that should help to make your choice a little more easily decided.

The 1.5-mile race at Belmont Park will fare better for some, and hurt others’ chances at the win. Only a handful of three-year-olds will be worth looking at when everyone is cheering as the field passes the quarter pole heading for the wire.

12. Shackleford (9-2) – After finishing a disappointing fourth in the Kentucky Derby, Shackleford finished an impressive wire-to-wire first at the Preakness. Shackleford’s jockey, Jesus Castanon, has to be considered one of the best jockeys in the sport, with more than 2,000 wins under his belt he is a proven contender. Although his Preakness win was notable, he was nearly caught up to in the much shorter race toward the finish, which can’t be a plus going into the longer Belmont. However, this colt is strapping and strong and still will clearly have a chance to win his second Triple Crown race.

9. Animal Kingdom (5-2) – The winner of the Kentucky Derby has to be the favorite in the Belmont, even after the disturbing defeat at the Preakness. Animal Kingdom’s jockey, John Velazquez, has won this race before—in 2007 on the back of Rags to Riches. This will no doubt give the duo a leg up on the competition. Velazquez also won the Miss Preakness while riding R Holiday Mood in the same weekend. Animal Kingdom is a closer in every sense of the word, so expect him to finish on the board.

6. Nehro (7-2) – The offspring of past Triple Crown winner Secretariat finished second in the Kentucky Derby, and is far from a long shot to win the “Run for the Carnations.” The always feisty and unpredictable Corey Nakatani, Nehro’s jockey, definitely has success under his belt, having won seven Breeders’ Cup races, but is 40 years old now. Will age affect his aggressiveness in the irons? Nehro tends to get too far behind in the beginning of races to allow his finishing kicks to win races, but Belmont is a longer race than either of the first two, so it’s not out of the question.

10. Mucho Macho Man (8-1)– After a hugely disappointing run in the Preakness, it will be hard to count of Mucho Macho Man for much of anything at Belmont. Mucho Macho Man will have a new jockey on board in the final race of the Triple Crown. Ramon Dominguez will bring a much-needed change to Mucho Macho Man’s gate. This horse will have issues with his running style, being seen much too often hanging with the middle of the pack. To win this race he must be more aggressive, as he used to be.

Betting Pick – My pick has to be Animal Kingdom. Although he had a disappointing finish in the Preakness, the fact that second place among the top thoroughbreds in the nation was a disappointment says enough all on its own. Any other horse coming around that final corner ahead has to be considered a dark horse behind Animal Kingdom.  CLICK HERE TO BET ON THE BELMONT STAKES!
