Parx Racing Selections for June 30, 2020 – Horse Racing Picks

We are at Parx for the first time this season in Philadelphia. The racetrack is open for racing on Tuesday, but fans aren’t permitted. The casino is open, though, so they don’t want people sitting closely together in the grandstands. The scheduled date to allow fans is still pending. In any event, the horses will be running on the dirt across ten races in Philadelphia today. A total of $226,000 will be spread out across the ten events.

The feature race will have $41,000 up for grabs in Race 9. It isn’t the biggest day of racing on the calendar at Parx, but hopefully we can turn it into a winning day for our bankrolls. There will be a huge day of racing on the Fourth of July. If you like stakes racing, Saturday is going to be the day for you. Belmont Park will have the most stakes money on hand, but there’s also a lot more money out there elsewhere.

We have three selections at Parx Racing for Tuesday. It was a close call at Lone Star Park yesterday, as our final selection of the day failed to get the win, ultimately preventing a three for three sweep in Texas. I will take a 2-1 day at plus-money any day of the week, though. Meme Jo ended up closing with a higher price in the parimutuel pool than the morning-line odds, so that was nice to see following the win. We’re seeking another winning day on Tuesday. Head below for our free Parx Racing picks for June 30, 2020.

Distance: 1 Mile 70 Yards

Race 2 will require a mile and 70 yards on the dirt. The winner will earn the top prize out of a $18,000 purse. Bearing Secrets, Sunfest, and Free Coffee are expected to be hot contenders in Race 2. Free Coffee is 2 for 17 in her career and has been running reasonably well leading into Tuesday. She has finished 9th, 2nd, 5th, 2nd, 4th in her previous five races, all in 2020 dating back to January 4.

Free Coffee came closest on January 25 and February 21. She placed in both races, but the outing in January was a 9 length loss against Glowing Star. A little further away than 2nd would make you believe. Free Coffee followed that up two weeks later for 5th, and then 2nd on February 21 after a 5 length loss. Her most recent win was on October 6, 2019 at Parx.

Sunfest has been on a nice consistent run and is expected to be involved in the top-3 in this one. Anything less than showing would be a major disappointment. She has finished in the top-3 in 7 of her last 8 races, with back-to-back wins on January 11 and February 1. Since then, Sunfest has finished 3rd, 5th, 3rd, with the most recent finish for 3rd on June 17. Overall, she has just 2 wins in 36 races, but always seems to hang around the front and will have a chance again today.

Bearing Secrets can say the same, with finishes of 2nd and 3rd in her most recent events. She has finished 4th, 3rd, 5th, 2nd, 3rd in her previous five outings. On February 9, Bearing Secrets placed 2nd behind War Tweet by 2 lengths. That was a wide-open race for a $25,369 purse. The difference between Sunfest and Bearing Secrets has been the quality of their opponents. Bearing Secrets has been running in a higher class and has been coming close. If Sunfest was in those races, it’s unlikely she gets the same results in the top-3. This is the most winnable race Bearing Secrets has entered in a while and should deliver.

Distance:6 Furlongs

Right after Race 2 we go into the next event at Parx on Tuesday. The third race of the day in Philadelphia will feature 6 furlongs of racing for a $20,000 purse. Calypso Ghost and Yellow Chick are both likely going to be involved in the stretch. Calypso Ghost is the betting favorite on the morning-line at +250.

She is 2 for 9 in her career, and has shown some fairly nice results so far. Calypso Ghost was on the best run of her career from December 15, 2019 to February 14. She won over Smoking Baby by 2 ¾ lengths on December 15, and then placed on December 26, 2019 behind Always Talking by a neck. It was a close call, but Calypso Ghost was in the money again, and won in her next event on February 14 at Laurel Park.

The win prompted Calypso Ghost’s connections to aim higher in her next entry. That didn’t go so well, though, as Calypso Ghost finished 5th of 6 in her latest performance on March 8. Calypso Ghost is back down at more of a winnable level for Tuesday and should be a threat. Her success is really dictated by the class she’s running in. If it isn’t Calypso Ghost in Race 3, it’s likely going to be Yellow Chick.

Yellow Chick has shown great consistency since this past fall. She finished 2nd on September 29, 2019 and has been running in the top-3 in 6 of her previous 7 outings, including a win in her most recent race on February 1 at Penn National. Yellow Chick won by 4 ½ lengths over for a $31,600 purse. This event is slightly down in class from that race. Her most recent workout was quite impressive with a time of 47.81 seconds at 4 furlongs on June 20. I will give the edge to the No. 1 horse over Calypso Ghost here.

Post Time: 3:37 p.m. EST
Distance:6 Furlongs

Our final selection of the day will have 6 furlongs of racing for a $28,000 purse. I have Bird Tycoon and Elizabeth T on my shortlist in this one. Bird Tycoon is likely going to have a better chance of winning here than the morning-line of +800 indicates. She is coming off a stakes race on November 4, 2019 in the Parx Juvenile Fillies Stakes (Black Type) for a $75,000 purse.

Bird Tycoon finished 6th, ahead of only Capital Q. She has finished 5th, 6th, 1st, 6th in her career. Bird Tycoon recorded a 1 ¾ length win over Polished Copper as a favorite on September 20, 2019. That was for a $38,000 purse, so I am thinking that Bird Tycoon has another bold effort in store for Tuesday in this event. The morning-line is off on the No. 5 horse. Elizabeth T is in strong form going into Race 7 at Parx today.

She won over Roma Delight by 5 ½ lengths on February 2, and then was in the mix again on March 8 for 2nd behind Lookin Dynamite for a $42,035 purse at Laurel Park. All five of her recent 4-furlong workouts have been completed below 50 seconds, with a high on May 24 and May 29 at 48.60 seconds. Overall, Elizabeth T has a win in five races, and is going to have an opportunity for her second victory today. Elizabeth T rates in good form heading into Tuesday. She is my selection in Race 7 with Bird Tycoon worth a sprinkle.
