Aqueduct Racetrack is one of eight race tracks operating on Thursday in the US. Aqueduct, Fair Grounds, and Gulfstream Park are the biggest names on the list. Gulfstream Park will be home to the biggest race of January this weekend. The $3,000,000 Pegasus World Cup Invitational (Gr. 1) will finally end a long drought of what has been smaller racing following the Breeders’ Cup Classic. Along with the $3,000,000 race, there is a $1,000,000 Pegasus event on the turf.
Following this race, attention will turn to the $20,000,000 Saudi Cup in February. Bob Baffert decided to point Charlatan straight to the Saudi Cup instead of going to the Pegasus World Cup Invitational. I think that would have been an easy win for Charlatan in the $3,000,000 event, but the lure of the purse in Saudi Cup made it too much to pass up.
Aqueduct has eight races scheduled for a total of $400,000 in prize money. We have more horse racing picks at Delta Downs in Louisiana on Thursday as well. Head below for our free Aqueduct Racetrack Daily Double pick for January 21, 2021.

Race 2 is a $39,000 event for 6 furlongs on the dirt. Lovely Lady Lexi and No Deal should have a good run for the top prize in Race 2. No Deal is dropping classes after going 8th and 10th in her previous two performances. She finished 8th in a $55,000 event, and then 10th in a $44,000 event thereafter in her most recent outing on November 27.
Prior to those two performances, No Deal beat Tara’s Talent by 1 ¾ lengths in a $28,900 race. That is what No Deal is trying to get back to, but this is still going to be tougher than that race, though. Lovely Lady Lexi should be a competitor that can defeat No Deal in this spot. Lovely Lady Lexi has placed in the top-2 in six straight outings.
In her most recent win, Lovely Lady Lexi beat Super Twenty Five by 2 lengths for a $20,000 purse on November 19. We most recently saw her running on December 31 where she placed 2nd behind 3 lengths in a tough $44,000 event. That effort would give Lovely Lady Lexi more than enough to hit the wire with the lead. After struggling recently, I’m not really sure what to expect from No Deal. With that in mind, the smart play appears to be with Lovely Lady Lexi.

Race 3 is the final leg of our Daily Double at Aqueduct Racetrack on Thursday. We could have a duel between Flowers for Lisa and Control Group unfold in the event. Flowers for Lisa gets the inside rail out of the gate, and might be able to get into the winner’s circle. Flowers for Lisa has been up and down recently, 13 for 57 in his career, and has gone 1st, 2nd, 6th, 5th, 3rd in his last five entries.
He beat Control Group in a pretty big upset on September 26. Flowers for Lisa had the edge by 3 ½ lengths at the wire. It was a nice effort, but not expected in the $39,000 assignment. Since that performance, Flowers for Lisa has gone 2nd, 6th, 5th, 3rd. In his most recent showing, Flowers for Lisa showed 3rd in a $39,000 event behind the winner by 2 lengths and a nose.
Control Group and Flowers for Lisa will meet again on Thursday at Aqueduct. Control Group is out for revenge this time and might be too tough to beat. He is 14 for 41 in his career and drops way down in class for this assignment. Most recently, Control Group finished 8th in a $74,000 event.
Prior to that effort, he finished 6th in a $60,000 race. Despite having to deal with Flowers for Lisa again, I’m leaning towards Control Group being the best today. He is a better horse than just had an off day against Flowers for Lisa in their first meeting. I would go with Control Group to get ahead of Flowers for Lisa and stay there through the final stretch run.
