The stakes events are quiet on Thursday, but there is one at Aqueduct in New York. The running of the $100,000 Bay Ridge Stakes is scheduled this afternoon at Aqueduct.
New Year’s Eve carries a handful of stakes races at Fair Grounds, Gulfstream Park, and Aqueduct. Gulfstream Park has the most stakes races with three $100,000 races tomorrow.
We’re going to the most notable track in operation for Thursday. Aqueduct has a total of eight races with $480,000 in prize money available. Head below for our free Aqueduct Racetrack picks on December 30, 2021.
Post Time: 1:19 p.m. EST
Distance: 7 Furlongs
Race 2 is an $80,000 event covering 7 furlongs on the dirt. Look at Rosebug and Diamond Collector to make noise in the stretch.
Rosebug is winless in three attempts, going 4th, 2nd, 6th in three races. She had her best race on October 2 at Belmont Park, placing 2nd behind Caironi by a neck for a $90,000 purse.
That wasn’t a bad go for Rosebug, who couldn’t follow up in the same form. She finished 6th on December 4 in an $80,000 assignment.
Diamond Collector made her debut on October 31 at Belmont Park. That was a sharp first-run run, with Diamond Collector placed 2nd behind Radio Days by 1 ½ lengths for $90,000.
The $320,000 filly has to be open to improvement after that attempt. Look for Diamond Collector to do a spot better.
Post Time: 2:11 p.m. EST
Distance: 6 Furlongs
Race 4 covers 6 furlongs for a $37,000 purse on the dirt. Hoopla and Alfie Solomons should be tough to touch in this assignment.
Hoopla has finished 6th, 1st, 7th, 10th, 1st, 3rd in six races in his career. He was a winner two races back with a ¾ length win over Cousin Andrew for $41,000.
That was a nice attempt from Hoopla and it took him to the winner’s circle. Hoopla made his debut at Aqueduct on December 11, showing 3rd in a $55,000 event.
Alfie Solomons has gone 1st, 9th, 5th, 1st, 3rd, 3rd in six attempts. He grabbed a win three races ago on July 10 at Keeneland.
It was a big run for Alfie Solomons to get in with a 1 ¾ length win for a $77,000 prize. Alfie Solomons came back to show 3rd in the $75,000 Tom Ridge Stakes on August 10.
In his next and most recent attempt, he showed 3rd in a $24,000 assignment. That was a touch disappointing, but Alfie Solomons can bounce back well.
Race 7 – Bay Ridge Stakes
Post Time: 3:36 p.m. EST
Distance:1 ⅛ Miles
The $100,000 Bay Ridge Stakes is a 1 ⅛ miles event on the dirt. Sharp Starr and Ice Princess should be tough to top in this assignment.
Sharp Starr is 4 for 15 in her career, with the filly having stakes experience going into Friday. She’s finished 3rd, 5th, 1st in her previous three outings.
Sharp Starr came up a winner in the $250,000 Empire Distaff Handicap by 3 ¼ lengths over Ice Princess in a major upset. Despite the loss, look for more from Ice Princess today.
After the win, Sharp Starr finished 4th in the $250,000 Go for Wand Handicap (Gr. 3) on December 4. Down to $100,000, Sharp Starr rates a threat.
Ice Princess is back for revenge against Sharp Starr. She is 4 for 15 and looking for better this afternoon.
In her latest showing, she placed behind Sharp Starr. However, Ice Princess has been consistent and is in good form.
She’s finished 1st, 2nd, 2nd in her last three outings. Up to 1 ⅛ miles, this should serve her better on Thursday. Expect Ice Princess to get this one done this time.
