How is that hangover feeling? When I say hangover, I hope it’s just a hangover from the alcohol and now the old gambler’s hangover. It can work both ways the day after Super Bowl Sunday. It sucks to say goodbye to football season, but there is a lot to look forward to. That goes for horse racing, with the $20,000,000 Saudi Cup quickly approaching soon.

For a Monday, it’s a fairly big day because of Aqueduct Racetrack. Aqueduct was anticipating running on Sunday, but poor weather has pushed the card back to today. On a day that is always quiet for horse racing, Aqueduct Racetrack shakes things off with a notable track on the schedule. Hopefully there are no setbacks.
Aqueduct has eight races scheduled for Monday with a total of $515,000 in prize money available. We will have another track covered for today, so keep an eye on the horse racing page. Head below for our free Aqueduct Racetrack picks for February 8, 2021.
Race 2
Post Time: 1:51 p.m. EST
Distance:6 ½ Furlongs
Purse:$55,000
Race 2 is our first look at Aqueduct Racetrack on this rare Monday card. Clench and Zaevion should be expected to run strong races in this outing. Clench is 5 for 22 in his career, with his most recent win on October 12 at Belmont Park. He defeated Morning Breez by 4 lengths in a $65,000 event for an impressive appearance to make it back-to-back wins.
Since then, Clench has gone 7th, 10th, 2nd. After finishing 10th in a $84,000 event, Clench dropped back to race in a $50,000 event, holding strong to place 2nd behind Square Shooter by 2 lengths. This seems to be the class where Clench is best suited. He moves up slightly to $55,000, but this is still within his range. It’s slightly tougher than anything.
Zaevion is 8 for 30 in his career, with a hat-trick recently falling his way. He didn’t lose a race from October 14 to December 29. In his most recent win, Zaevion beat Souper Fly easily by 1 ½ lengths in a $22,000 race on December 29, but struggled up in class and finished 4th in his latest outing on January 16. Zaevion went for 4th to show that was far too much of a class hike.
He was more than fine in a $55,000 race on November 6 at Aqueduct. Zaevion made it look easy with a 4 ¼ length win over Topper T. He drew clear going into the stretch and held nicely. With the edge on the inside rail, expect a bounce-back spot for Zaevion in Race 2 on Monday.
Race 6
Post Time: 3:55 p.m. PST
Distance:6 ½ Furlongs
Purse:$61,000
We head to Race 6 at Aqueduct Racetrack on Monday afternoon with our sights on a $61,000 event. Princess Corey and Cadeau de Paix should present bold bids in this race. Cadeau de Paix is 3 for 13 in her career, with some nice form recently. She showed 3rd on January 5 in a $55,000 event, and then looked great on January 24 for a $37,000 purse. Cadeau de Paix beat Quality Stones by 2 ½ lengths for the win.
This is going to be a tougher assignment, so expect Cadeau de Paix to likely have to fight more for a win in this event. Princess Corey is going to provide Cadeau de Paix with a strong challenge. She has finished 2nd, 3rd, 1st, 2nd. In her win on November 15, Princess Corey beat Be Good by 5 ½ lengths in a $41,118 event. That was nice, but came up just a bit short most recently on January 3 to place 2nd behind a nose in a $55,000 race. Expect Princess Corey to be involved in the stretch with a good chance of striking.
Race 7
Post Time: 4:25 p.m. EST
Distance:1 ⅛ Miles
Purse:$84,000
Our final selection is Race 7 at Aqueduct late in the afternoon on Monday. This race will run 1 ⅛ miles on the main track. Empty Tomb and Backsideofthemoon are likely going to get close in this one. Empty Tomb is 3 for 14 in his career and top-3 in five of his previous six outings. He beat Backsideofthemoon by 1 ½ lengths in a $67,000 event.
That was an impressive showing, but he’s been regressing since. Empty Tomb has finished 3rd, 7th, 3rd, 2nd in his previous four performances. He looked good on January 15 in a $84,000 event behind Mad Munnys by 1 ¾ lengths. Empty Tomb is a $190,000 horse that should be expected to run close in this class again.
Backsideofthemoon is 8 for 48 in his career and in better form since losing against Empty Tomb. He’s finished 2nd, 1st, 1st, 4th in his previous three outings. Backsideofthemoon beat Musical Heart by 6 lengths in the $100,000 Queen Stakes Stakes on December 19. Prior to that win, Backsideofthemoon dispatched Musical Heart by a beck in a $84,000 race.
In his most recent outing, Backsideofthemoon struggled for the first time in awhile. He finished 4th in the $100,000 Jazil Stakes on January 23. Back down in class, expect Backsideofthemoon to stage a nice response on Monday afternoon in Queens.
