Aqueduct Racetrack Selections for January 3, 2021 – Horse Racing Picks

We are back on the racetrack on Sunday after a profitable day at Santa Anita Park on Saturday. The San Gabriel Stakes didn’t go according to plan, but a two for three day with a couple of plus money winners is always welcome. BetOnline has six racecourses available for wagering on Sunday. You can find a 7% cash-back bonus and $25.00 free bet at BetOnline just for signing up at their sportsbook.

To access the ponies, head to the link for the racebook in the navigation section. It’s a perfect time to get involved in horse racing with the Pegasus World Cup right around the corner. The 2021 Pegasus is scheduled for January 25 at Gulfstream Park. There will be fans allowed in a limited capacity for the event. In other words, that likely means you have to know somebody.

I’m going to pass on the Sunday Gulfstream Park card and head to Aqueduct Racetrack. Aqueduct has nine races on the schedule worth a total of $534,000 in prize money. The running of the $100,000 La Verdad Stakes is the feature race of the day at Aqueduct on Sunday. Head below for our free Aqueduct Racetrack picks for January 3, 2021.

We will start with Race 1 at Aqueduct on Sunday afternoon. Race 1 is a mile event for a $35,000 purse on the dirt. Rosey’s Peach and Amity Island should have a good run at the top prize in this event. Rosey’s Peach has finished 4th, 3rd, 8th, 4th, 4th in five races in her career. That doesn’t look too impressive, but it’s much better than we’ve seen from a lot of other participants in this event. In her most recent showing, Rosey’s Peach finished 4th in a $43,000 event.

With the class drop, she should stand a better chance of doing better. Amity Island showed great improvement after finishing 8th as a first-time starter on October 10. She finished 8th in the $52,000 event, and then came back on December 3 to place 2nd behind Poncho Song by 2 lengths for a $43,000 race. That was a promising showing by Amity Island, and she is open to more improvement as well. She drops an additional class to a $35,000 event on Sunday afternoon. That should do the trick.

Race 7 carries a sizable purse of $74,000 at Aqueduct. Ten horses are expected to participate, with Jerry the Nipper and Bourbon Bay strong contenders to pick up a win. Bourbon Bay is 2 for 9 in his career, with a couple of solid efforts recently. Bourbon Bay placed 2nd behind Yankee Division by 2 ½ lengths for a $56,000 purse. Not a bad try and Bourbon Bay did strike gold in his most recent performance on September 25 at Belmont Park.

Bourbon Bay beat Unrelenting Force by 1 length after stealing the win in the stretch. Unrelenting Force had the lead from the gate deep into the stretch before Bourbon Bay found his stride at the right moment. The young colt should be in the mix in Race 1. This is a $240,000 horse that is expected to compete in this class. However, expect resistance from Jerry the Nipper from the inside in this event.

Jerry the Nipper is 2 for 4 in his career, having finished 2nd, 1st, 3rd, 1st so far. He beat Whichwaytomalibu easily for a 6 ¾ length win in a $60,000 event on February 22, and then found the winner’s circle again most recently on December 10. He was a 1 ¾ length winner over Wudda U Think Now for a $72,000 purse. This assignment appears to be within his range, and he has the talent to be even better than we’ve seen.

(3) Espresso Shot
+800 (8/1)
(4) Prairie Fire

(5) Mrs. Orb
+400 (4/1)
(6) Sharp Starr
-125 (4/5)

Post Time: 3:50 p.m. EST
Distance:7 Furlongs

Race 8 is the feature race at Aqueduct, with a purse of $100,000 in the La Verdad Stakes. Six horses are expected to participate in the race. Sadie Lady and Sharp Starr are worthy of consideration in this one. Sadie Lady is 6 for 17 in her career and has a recent win on December 18. She has finished 6th, 3rd, 5th, 1st in her previous four outings.

Sadie Lady was on a hat-trick before faltering and getting back in the winner’s circle two weeks ago. She defeated Call On Mischief by 2 ½ lengths on December 18 in a $84,000 event. Sadie Lady went running in a stakes race prior to that win on November 22 in the $100,000 New York Stallion Stakes (Black Type). She finished 5th in that race and was outmatched. The La Verdad Stakes marks her return to a stakes event.

Sharp Starr is 3 for 9 and in search of a hat-trick on Sunday. In her most recent outing, Sharp Starr beat Portal Creek by a neck in the $100,000 Go for Wand Handicap (Gr. 3) on December 5. Preceding that victory, she defeated Blitchton Lady in a blowout by 15 ¾ lengths in a $74,000 assignment that was much too easy for her. $100,000 events are good spots for her. A winning run could be expected in the La Verdad Stakes on Sunday.
