Charles Town Selections for December 16, 2020 – Horse Racing Picks

There are a couple of racecourses active in West Virginia on Wednesday night. Charles Town and Mountaineer Park will battle it out for the attention of handicapper’s today. We have you covered at Tampa Bay Downs for the afternoon racing, and now we turn to the evening for some gambling under the lights at Charles Town.

This facility is also a Hollywood Casino, which has a hotel attached. Mountaineer Park also has a casino and hotel, so you can hang around and make a short trip out of it. If you’ve had a few too many pops and can’t drive, the hotel is convenient. And most importantly, Charles Town has a sportsbook to place sports bets at now. West Virginia is one of the states that has legalized sports betting.

Race 6 is our first look at Charles Town on Wednesday night. This is a late race, with post time scheduled for around 9:20 p.m. EST. Grey Manners and Papparoxy are likely to put a charge into this race and compete hard in the stretch. Grey Manners has finished in the top-2 in three of her previous four races. Her most recent win was on September 16 for a $15,000 purse.

Grey Manners beat Revolving Love by 1 ¼ lengths in an impressive performance as an underdog. Grey Manners hasn’t been able to follow up for another win since that victory. She has finished 2nd, 6th, 2nd, so came close a couple of times. In her most recent showing, Grey Manners placed 2nd behind Nightmare by 2 ½ lengths for a $12,000 purse.

Papparoxy is on a nice run to open her career with two entries and two wins. She won as a first-time runner on December 18, 2019 over Your Eyes to Mind by 5 ¾ lengths for a $27,000 purse. Papparoxy came back to win again on January 17 over Ilchester by a neck for a $30,000 purse. Illchester was the heavy favorite, and Papparoxy held on at the wire. Papparoxy had a 4 length lead going into the stretch and was nearly caught. Despite the layoff, she should perform well in this class.

We have one more pick at Charles Town on Wednesday night. Just two horses on my card tonight, as I’m not going to force a third that doesn’t look attractive. Race 9 is for a $30,000 purse, which is the biggest race and feature event at Charles Town today. Parisian Diva and Campy Cash should run a close race, and likely will play a role in the stretch run. Parisian Diva has had a lot of success with wins in 9 of 15 races in her career.

She has stake experience as well, having run in eight of them in her career. Parisian Diva has one graded race on her resume, with an appearance in the $300,000 Charles Town Oaks (Gr. 3) on September 21, 2019. In her next three outings, Parisian Diva went 1st, 1st, 3rd. In her most recent performance, Parisian Diva was 3rd on December 5 in a $51,371 event. She is a winner in three of her last five outings. Down in class, you have to like Parisian Diva’s chances of getting a win in this race.

Campy Cash is in the form of her career at the moment. She is looking for a hat-trick with her third straight win on Wednesday, and has finished in the top-2 in four straight contests. Campy Cash beat Arty’s Secret by 3 ¾ lengths for a $28,000 purse on August 29, and then followed up for another win on November 21 in a $29,000 assignment by 6 ½ lengths. That was much too easy for Campy Cash. She should face pressure from Parisian Diva, who is a strong horse, too. But give me Campy Cash, who heads into tonight in terrific shape.
