Post Time: 7:00 p.m. EST
Distance:6 ½ Furlongs

The first race at Charles Town is a $17,000 event across 6 ½ furlongs of racing. Becoming Smitty and Yesiknowwhoiam should have a good chance of scoring the top prize in this event. Becoming Smitty is winless in 13 races, but has been a consistent runner recently. He has finished top-3 in four of his previous five entries.

Becoming Smitty was in his best form on February 6 in his most recent showing. He placed 2nd behind Mindyourpsandqs by a nose in a $17,000 event. That was a big run from Becoming Smitty who was nipped at the wire. It could have gone either way, with the nod going to Mindyourpsandqs in the final split second. It was his best finish since placing 2nd in October.

Yesiknowwhoiam has placed 2nd in three straight performances. He’s gone 2nd, 4th, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd and coming on strong for a win. In his last two outings on December 10 and January 8, Yesiknowwhoiam placed 2nd behind the winners by 1 ¾ lengths and 2 ¼ lengths. The chances of Yesiknowwhoiam running well again is good. He is going to have to show up to race, but if he does that, then a win should be within reach.

Post Time: 9:21 p.m. EST
Distance:6 ½ Furlongs

We will turn to Race 6 for our next selection at Charles Town on Thursday night. Prime Lime and Sherwood Lady should have something to show in the stretch. Prime Lime has been solid enough throughout her career, with 9 wins in 29 performances. She has finished 2nd, 1st, 5th, 2nd in her last four outings.

Prime Lime was a winner three races ago on October 22 for a 5 length win over Nellysford by 5 lengths. Impressive run for Prime Lime, who was looking good in her most recent assignment as well. Prime Lime placed 2nd behind Street Appeal by 5 ½ lengths in a $20,000 event. She is going to need more than that effort, but should be close.

Sherwood Lady is 11 for 43 in her career, and coming off a really strong performance on January 23. She defeated Longstorylucy by 5 ¾ lengths in an impressive effort. It was a bounce-back race for Sherwood Lady finished 7th on January 15.

In her previous four outings, she has gone 4th, 2nd, 7th, 1st. She has stakes experience and the most accomplished horse in the field. If Sherwood Lady runs anything like she did last month, then you certainly have to expect a winning run from her on Thursday night.

Our Bet

Race 7

(1) Coach Rube
+250 (5/2)
(2) Dark Tricks
+1200 (12/1)
(3) Nellysford
+1000 (10/1)
(4) Chiefs Kingdom
+450 (9/2)
(5) My Lovely Girl
+200 (2/1)
(6) Irma Girl
+3000 (30/1)
(7) First Lady Maggie
+300 (3/1)

Post Time: 9:49 p.m. EST
Distance:4 ½ Furlongs

Our final pick at Charles Town is a $30,000 event covering 4 ½ furlongs. It should be a good one between Coach Rube and My Lovely Girl in the stretch. Coach Rube is 5 for 13 in her career and has most of the time been competitive. Along with four wins in her last eight races, Coach Rube has been in the top-3 in seven of eight outings.

In her most recent showing, she placed 2nd behind my Lovely Girl by 1 ½ lengths. Coach Rube held strong in 2nd throughout the race from the ¼ pole onward. However, she was unable to show enough kick to get ahead in the stretch. It was a nice effort by My Lovely Girl to hold off Coach Rube by more than a length.

My Lovely Girl is 3 for 11 in her career, with a win two races ago on January 9. She defeated Coach Rube in the race I noted above, and then came back on January 20 to show 3rd in a $30,000 event. In her previous eight performances, she has been in the top-3 in seven and top-2 in six. This appears like a winnable situation for My Lovely Girl against a foe she’s cleared before.
