We are back out on the racetrack on Thursday with a look at a couple of cards throughout the US. In our first, we’re at Aqueduct Racetrack for a $415,000 day in New York. There aren’t any stakes racing at Aqueduct on Thursday, but there are a couple of big races with notable purse sizes. BetOnline has six other racecourses with cards on Thursday, four of which begin in the afternoon and a couple of evening cards.
If you want some night racing, then Turfway Park and Charles Town have what you’re looking for. Looking for a free bet to get started with horse racing? Charles Town, located in West Virginia, begins racing in primetime at 7:00 p.m. EST. Charles Town has ten races on the agenda Thursday worth a total of $193,500. Head below for our free Charles Town picks on January 7, 2021.

Charles Town begins on Thursday with a $17,000 race on the dirt. Charles Town only has a dirt track, so there is no turf racing to be had here. Great Cause and Cowgirl Night are of interest to me on Thursday night. Great Cause is open to improvement after finishing 8th, 6th, 8th, 8th, 3rd. In her most recent outing, Great Cause showed 3rd in a $17,000 event.
She was 3 lengths behind the winner in that race. Not a bad effort, and it was enough for the best finish of her career. Another race like that and Great Cause should get close again. Following that performance on December 12, Great Cause completed 4 furlongs with a time of 49 seconds on December 30.
Cowgirl Night is winless in five races, finishing 5th, 4th, 4th, 4th, 4th in those outings. She is still trying to get into the top-3, but after a transfer to Charles Town from Laurel Park, Cowgirl Night stands a good chance of doing much better. Cowgirl Night was 4th in her most recent entry on New Year’s Day.
In a $37,179 assignment on January 1, Cowgirl Night ran well decently enough and made a late bid. It wasn’t nearly enough, but upon a big class drop, it should be against this field. In the easiest assignment of her career, I’d take a chance on the No. 3 horse to win after sliding down considerably in class.

Distance:4 ½ Furlongs
Race 4 is the co-feature event at Charles Town on Thursday night. By Charles Town standards, this is a fairly big race for a $28,000 purse. It’s going to be a short sprint for the top prize at just 4 ½ furlongs of racing. Rusty the Ups Man and Bubba Grump are likely going to run a sharp race on Thursday night.
Rutsy the Ups Man has been up and down in his career. He is a winner in 1 of 17 races, with his most recent win on July 27, 2019. Rusty the Ups Man has finished 2nd, 4th, 2nd, 2nd, 4th in his previous four outings. Not a bad stretch, and he came close in a few.
In the last race Rusty the Ups Man placed in, he came a neck away from beating Shameless Risk. he wasn’t able to pull it off, but it was a nice effort regardless for a $28,000 purse. Rusty the Ups Man came back on December 9 to finish 4th. He’ll need to be better than that, but if he matches his performance from October 30, all should be good on Thursday.
Bubba Grump split so far, as he finished 4th in his debut on September 7 in a $27,000 assignment. He returned in his second outing and won on December 19. Bubba Grump beat Showtime Cat by 3 ½ lengths for another $27,000 purse. This was after he had an electric workout on November 28, with a time of 46.40 seconds at 4 furlongs. If all signs hold on going into Thursday, then a win for Bubba Grump looks accurate.
