There are several racecourses for you to go on Saturday in the US. Some of the big players are on board today, with Aqueduct Racetrack, Santa Anita Park, and Gulfstream Park all hosting events. We have Santa Anita Park covered with a Daily Double and Pick 3 ticket. The $200,000 La Canada Stakes (Gr. 3) at Santa Anita is the feature race in the US on Saturday. The La Canada Stakes is on our ticket for the multi-bet. If you want to just play the races as singles, then feel free to spread out your bets across three events. Along with the three tracks mentioned above, there are also six other facilities for wagering at BetOnline today.
Charles Town in West Virginia is one of the tracks that will be racing on Saturday. For those that like to bet the ponies under the lights, then Charles Town is right up your lane. Charles Town begins racing in primetime, with post-time for Race 1 at 7:00 p.m. EST. There are a couple of horses that I like on the card on Saturday at Charles Town. Head below for our free Charles Town picks on January 9, 2021.
Post Time: 7:32 p.m. EST
Distance:4 ½ Furlongs
In our first of two selections at Charles Town, we’ll get started in Race 2, scheduled for just after 7:30 p.m. EST. Seven horses are expected to run 4 ¼ furlongs for the top prize in this race. Don’tmesswithbull and Be Be Bop should be involved in the stretch with a chance for a win here. Don’tmesswithbull is a Charles Town lifer, with all nine races in his career taking place, with a tenth tonight, at Charles Town.
He opened his career with a win on August 15, 2019. That was a 4 ¼ length win over Busted Halo for a $17,000 purse. Since that win, Don’tmesswithbull hasn’t had much to celebrate, though. He placed 2nd immediately after, and hasn’t done that well in seven outings.
Don’tmesswithbull showed twice, most recently on August 15, 2020 in a $18,000 event, exactly a year after his debut. He’s gone 5th and 7th since then. In his last outing, Don’tmesswithbull finished 7th in a $28,000 race. The jump to a class that high made no sense, and the result pretty well lined up with expectations. Now he slides all the way down to a winnable $11,000 assignment on Saturday.
Be Be Bop found success as a rookie in his career as well. He was a winner over I’moverthemoon by a half length on September 12 for a $15,000 purse. Be Be Bop has gone 7th, 4th, and most recently 5th on December 3. He finished 5th in a $18,000 event leading up to today.
That was a poor showing, but his outings have followed a familiar story, hence the drop in distance to a 4 ½ length race today. Be Be Bop starts well and then weakens in the stretch. Expect a much better race for Be Be Bop in a 4 ½ length assignment on Saturday.
Post Time: 8:02 p.m. EST
Distance:1 1/16 Miles
Race 3 is a $12,500 event covering 1 1/16 miles on the dirt at Charles Town tonight. Cross Keys and Lady Macho should have a good go of it for the top prize in this one. Cross Keys gets the No. 2 post position, while Lady Macho will be a couple of spots further down the gate in No. 4. In her first win, she beat Palaceofresentment by a head in a $13,000 event on September 30.
Then she followed up to finish 5th, 4th, 5th before winning again most recently on December 22 at Mountaineer Park. Cross Keys beat Nancy Knowsthemath by 8 ½ lengths in a $6,800 race. All that entry is was chasing an easy win after struggling three races straight. Back up in class, let’s see how Cross Keys handles it on Saturday night under the lights.
Lady Macho has been the more consistent of the two. She is 2 for 16 in her career, but showing better form of late. Lady Macho has gone 2nd, 2nd, 4th, 1st, 2nd. In her win on December 18, Lady Macho beat Embrace a New Day by a head in a $15,945 race. She placed 2nd behind Thunderturtle by 7 lengths in her next race, a bit too tough for a $16,545 purse. Down to the $12,500 level tonight, expect Lady Macho to do well in this one, with a good chance of arriving in the winner’s circle.
