If you are looking for some racing under the lights, then you can find some night racing in Charles Town at Hollywood Casino on Thursday night. Charles Town will start racing with a scheduled post time for 7:00 p.m. EST. There is plenty of racing across the country on Thursday from the east to the west. We start at Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens, and then a short trip to West Virginia for a night card in Charles Town. The stakes are getting higher on the Road to the Kentucky Derby, with three 170-point prep races this Saturday.
The biggest is the $750,000 Florida Derby (Gr. 1) at Gulfstream Park. Note that the purse money was reduced from $1,000,000 to $750,000 last year because of the pandemic, and they’re staying with a $750,000 purse after missing out on a lot of coin because of reduced attendance. Along with the Florida Derby, the Jeff Ruby Stakes at Turfway Park and UAE Derby have 100 points going to the winner on Saturday. Charles Town has eight races on the card tonight with a total of $149,500 available to be won. Head below for our free Charles Town picks for March 25, 2021.
Post Time: 8:53 p.m. EST
Distance:1 ⅛ Miles
We get started at Charles Town around 9:00 this evening in West Virginia. Sound Off and Midnight Act should have something to say in the stretch. Sound Off is 12 for 57 in his career, and in superb form since November. He’s been top-2 in five of six outings, including four straight wins from November 27 to January 22.
His run was broken up on March 5 in a $20,000 assignment. Sound Off still did well, though, showing 3rd in a $20,000 assignment. There was no late gain or kick, so that might have been the worst sign to take from that effort. It was expected from the favorite, but he never had enough juice in the tank to catch up and win.
A race earlier on January 22, Sound Off won his fourth straight win with a ¾ length win for a $21,000 purse. It was closer than anticipated, with Sound Off an overwhelming favorite at post time. Midnight Act has been a consistent horse as well. He’s placed 2nd in four straight attempts, most recently on March 3 at Parx.
Midnight Act finished 3 ¼ lengths behind Iyawaan for a $22,000 purse. Prior to that showing, Midnight Act was 2 lengths behind in the same class. Overall, he’s 8 for 32 in his career, and was bought with success in mind at this level for $115,000 in 2018. A transfer to Charles Town versus easier competition should get him back to the winner’s circle.

Distance:6 ½ Furlongs
Race 7 goes off for 6 ½ furlongs on the dirt for a $29,000 purse. This constitutes the feature race of the evening at Charles Town. Six horses will participate, with Shameless Risk and Muad’dib likely running up front in the stretch. These are two foes in good form at the moment going into Thursday evening.
Shameless Risk is a three-time winner through his eight-race career. He’s finished 1st and 2nd in his last two outings, and 1st, 1st, 2nd, 5th, 1st, 2nd in his previous six. That is some nice form for Shameless Risk, who stands a good chance of winning this event.
In his most recent win, he defeated Rocket Appeal by a neck in a $29,000 event on January 16. Shameless Risk failed to follow up for another win, but was in good form to place 2nd behind Fancy Concho by 1 ¼ lengths after losing by 1 ¼ lengths. Shameless Risk dueled with Out of Cents for 2nd place.
Muad’dib is on fire to open his career with three outings and three wins. He rates as a threat to all in the Charles Town backside. Muad’dib is coming off a 8 length win over Ocasionaly Classy by 8 lengths in a $29,000 event on March 21. A performance earlier, Muad’dib won in similar fashion by 7 ½ lengths on February 28. If Muad’dib posts a similar effort tonight, a transfer elsewhere for bigger money might be in order.

Distance:6 ½ Furlongs
The final pick and final race of the day at Charles Town is a 6 ½ furlong event for a $12,000 purse tonight. Cheese Louise and She’s Right might butt heads in the stretch. Cheese Louise is a two-time winner, which came in two of her previous three attempts. She beat Sing Frosty by 6 ½ lengths for a $17,000 purse on February 3 in an impressive performance.
Something was amiss in her next start, finishing 6th in a $18,000 event. That was short lived, as Cheese Louise beat West Virginia Pam by 1 ¼ lengths in a $11,000 event. The class drop helped, and Cheese Louise is running in a similar class tonight.
She’s Right has been running consistently the last few races to place 2nd in three straight. She placed 2nd behind Castle of Caylee by 5 ¾ lengths in her most recent attempt, a $12,000 event. Prior to that effort, She’s Right placed 2nd in a $13,000 event by 1 ¾ lengths. A solid chance to win this one, but I’d give the better value to the No. 1 horse. Cheese Louise should get the win on Thursday night in this one.
