We have two more legs of the Triple Crown to get through with the running of the Preakness Stakes on Saturday, and then it will conclude in New York at Belmont Park on June 5. With Medina Spirit facing a disqualification in the Kentucky Derby, there will not be a Triple Crown winner regardless of what happens at Pimlico and Belmont Park. Bob Baffert can pretend that he has his third Triple Crown, but it’s not going to go in the books. I’m not confident in Medina Spirit winning the gauntlet of a race in the Belmont Stakes anyway. It might be a moot point. If you don’t want to bet on the Preakness Stakes or Pimlico, there’s many other options available out there to bet. The Preakness Stakes is only one race.
Two cards are covered at TheSportsGeek on Friday at Gulfstream Park and Charles Town. Gulfstream Park is active this afternoon, and we’re there with three picks. In the evening, Charles Town has eight races with $168,800 in prize money available in West Virginia. Head below for our free Charles Town picks for May 14, 2021.

Distance:4 ½ Furlongs
Race 1 at Charles Town is a $18,700 event covering 4 ½ furlongs. Six horses are scheduled to run in this one, with Dyladdie and Hollywood Brown figuring to enter the equation in the stretch. Dyladdie is winless in six attempts, but has been showing signs of recently as of late.
She has finished 6th, 4th, 4th, 7th, 4th, 2nd in her career. In her most recent outing, Dyladdie placed 2nd behind Miss Morgantown by 1 length in a $17,000 assignment. This was after going 4th in another $17,000 event. Improvement in form was definitely noted for Dyladdie. However, more is going to be required to get into the winner’s circle in this one.
Hollywood Brown is going to put pressure on Dyladdie to improve in this performance. Hollywood Brown has finished 2nd and 4th in two races in his career. He was sharp as a first-time runner to place 2nd behind Triple Gala by a nose in a $27,000 event. That could have easily gone to Hollywood Brown.
In his next and most recent outing, Hollywood Brown finished 4th in a $29,700 assignment. That was still a good effort, but Hollywood Brown is moving into easier territory in a $18,700 event on Friday evening. This should be too easy for Hollywood Brown, as he clears in the stretch to pull away from this field.

Distance:6 ½ Furlongs
Race 5 goes for 6 ½ furlongs on the dirt for a $20,900 purse. Sound Off and To the Front should have a strong presence in this event. Sound Off is 13 for 59 in his career, and has been a consistent force over the last several months. He has finished in the top-3 in eight straight performances, which includes five wins.
In his most recent outing, Sound Off beat Martin Man by 1 ¾ lengths in a $19,000 assignment. That was an encouraging performance for Sound Off after showing in back-to-back outings on March 5 and March 25. In the March 25 performance, Sound Off showed 3rd in a $21,000 race. This race bears some resemblance to that race, so I think some more is going to be necessary to get a win out of Friday.
To the Front is a consistent beast with 12 straight performances in the top-3. Only one of those were for 3rd, with all of the others either placing 2nd or a win. In his previous four trips, To the Front has gone 1st, 1st, 1st, 2nd. He was a winner on April 11 over Kingston Pike by 3 ¼ lengths in a $25,750 event. Then came back on April 29 most recently to place 2nd behind Primal Destiny by 2 ¾ lengths in a $22,000 race. This $20,900 should offer a nice opportunity to strike back with a win.

Race 7 covers 7 furlongs on the dirt for a $33,000 purse. This event has eight horses participating, with Air Token and Spieghtsford of interest to me. Speightsford is 3 for 16 in his career and has finished 7th, 6th, 2nd, 7th in his previous four trips. He placed 2nd behind Hall Pass by 2 ½ lengths in a $63,967 for an encouraging performance.
That was a big try from Speightsford that came up just short. However, Speightsford was unable to follow up with a similar performance in his next outing. He finished 7th in a $55,131 event on March 5. That performance indicated it’s time for Speightsford to drop big in class. Air Token is 5 for 16 in his career, with some stakes experience to his name.
He had a stakes win in the $100,000 Concern Stakes on November 28. That was part of a three-race winning streak for Air Token. Since then, Air Token has gone 4th, 7th, 2nd. In his most recent, Air Token placed 2nd behind Girls Love Me by a neck in a $30,600 event. That was a missed chance for Air Token, but he’s more than capable of winning in this class. Because of the loss, you are probably going to get better value than you would have otherwise. I like Air Token at 3/1 on the morning-line.
