There are two million dollar races, one at Belmont Park and another in the GTA at Woodbine. I’m taking a pass on Belmont and Woodbine today and looking at the Churchill Downs card. We have three stakes picks at Churchill Downs, including the feature race with Shedaresthedevil.

Charles Town takes its post on Saturday night in West Virginia. Charles Town has eight races worth $391,800 in prize money tonight. Head below for our free Charles Town picks for September 18, 2021.

Post Time: 7:00 p.m. EST

Purse:$18,700

The first race on Saturday night at Charles Town is a $18,700 event covering 6 ½ furlongs on the dirt. Azure Fire and Huckleberry Friend should be in strong contention for this event.

Azure Fire has finished 8th, 6th, 3rd, 10th, 3rd in his career. He hasn’t won, but is coming off a fine performance on August 28.

Azure Fire showed 3rd on August 28 for a $18,700 purse. Prior to that attempt, Azure Fire finished 10th in a $29,700 event on August 10. He’s staying in the right class on Saturday.

Huckleberry Friend is winless in eight attempts, finishing 4th, 2nd, 2nd in his previous three races. He is coming off two progressive performances on August 7 and August 28.

He placed 2nd behind C R’s Mandate by 2 ½ lengths in a $18,700 event, and then most recently 2nd behind Modern Day Romance by 3 ¾ lengths in the same class. Against this field, there’s no surprise if Huckleberry Friend moves up the front tonight.

Race 2

(1) Theladyistrue
+500 (5/1)
(2) Jamestown Road
+600 (6/1)
(3) Katalima
+800 (8/1)
(4) Eternal Heart

(6) Heretodaygonmanana

Post Time: 7:32 p.m. EST
Distance:1 1/16 Miles
Purse:$31,900

Race 2 at Charles Town covers 1 1/16 miles for a $31,900 purse. Look for Eternal Heart and Heretodaygonmanama to have a strong showing in this event. Eternal Heart is 2 for 8 in her career with a win two races back on June 25.

She beat Katalima by a neck for a $30,800 purse. That was a solid attempt from Eternal Heart, but failed to follow up on August 7. Eternal Heart finished 4th for a $31,900 prize. She’s not dropping in class after that race, so we’ll see if improvements are made.

Heretodaygonmanana is coming off back-to-back wins on November 26, 2020 and August 27, 2021. She is 4th, 4th, 10th, 1st, 1st in her career, so has been coming on recently.

Heretodaygonmanana beat Boundtobeok by ¾ lengths in a $27,000 event, and then followed up for a 4 ¾ length win on August 27. After that performance, the only place for Heretodaygonmanana is up in class to $31,900. This is going to be a bit tougher, but still more than doable.

The Bet
(6) HERETODAYGONMANANA

Race 4

(1) Vintage Gin
+500 (5/1)
(2) Cheese Louise
+1200 (12/1)
(3) C V’s Powerpak

(5) Vacation Secret
+1500 (15/1)
(6) Gab’s Lil Leaguer
+600 (6/1)
(7) Arrowwood
+800 (8/1)

Post Time: 8:32 p.m. EST
Distance:1 1/16 Miles
Purse:$30,800

Race 4 is a $30,800 event covering 1 1/16 miles on the dirt. Vintage Gin and C V’s Powerpak should play a role in the stretch run. Vintage Gin is 9 for 48 in her career, with the mare going 1st, 2nd, 1st, 1st in her previous four attempts.

She was a winner in back-to-back events on August 28 and September 11. Vintage Gin beat Longstorylucy by 5 lengths for a $15,400 purse, and then followed up for a $14,300 win by 7 ¼ lengths.

C V’s Powerpak is 2 for 10 in her career. She has finished 1st, 1st, 2nd, 4th, 3rd, 3rd, 2nd in her previous seven attempts. C V’s Powerpak most recently won on February 26. She defeated Katalima by a head in a $18,000 assignment.

She’s coming off a stakes performance on August 27 in the $75,000 Sylvia Bishop Memorial Stakes. C V’s Powerpak. That was impressive with C V’s Powerpak just 2 lengths away in a $75,000 event. Not bad. I give C V’s Powerpak the edge in this one.
