The closer to the weekend we get the more horse racing is on the agenda across the country. BetOnline will have 11 racecourses available for handicapping on Friday. Some of the big players are involved today as well, with Aqueduct, Churchill Downs, Del Mar, and Woodbine all in play on Friday afternoon. There isn’t much in the way of big time stakes racing this weekend. The biggest stakes events in the US are races for $100,000. Woodbine will be home to the only $100,000 race on Friday. The only Grade 2 races of the weekend will also take place at Woodbine, a couple of $175,000 events.
We have Aqueduct Racetrack covered in New York for today. Along with Aqueduct, we’ll be at the world famous Churchill Downs in Louisville on Friday. Churchill Downs has nine races for a total of $330,500 in prize money. Head below for our free Churchill Downs picks for November 20, 2020.

We get started at Churchill Downs with Race 2, a mile for a $33,000 purse. My Aunt Mims and Recoded are expected to run close in this event. My Aunt Mims is 3 for 8 in her career and has been in good form recently. She has finished in the top-3 in four straight performances. In her last three outings, My Aunt Mims has finished 1st, 1st, 2nd.
She won back-to-back races on June 2 and August 5. Those entries were worth $18,500 and $41,300. In the $41,300 race, My Aunt Mims won by a neck over Lady Gwen. In her last appearance on October 30, she placed 2nd behind Spun Eazy by 3 ¾ lengths in a $33,000 assignment. You have to believe that My Aunt Mims is going to be close at the wire in this one.
Recoded has been showing a lot of promise recently as well. She has a win in two of her previous three races, with a victory on September 23 over Pick Up the Fone by 1 ¾ lengths in a $39,000 assignment. In her latest win, Recoded beat Ginny B by 3 lengths in a $34,000 event. Note that in four of her previous six outings, he was in the top-2. For $150,000, you expect Recoded to win these kinds of races in this class. I’m on Recoded to emerge with a win.

Race 7 will run for a $45,000 purse on the main track. This is a group of winless and mostly inexperienced horses. Nine runners are expected to participate in the event. Hybrid Eclipse and Patty H are going to likely be involved in the stretch. Hybrid Eclipse will be making the second start of her career on October 16 after finishing 4th in a $70,000 event.
It wasn’t a terrible performance for Hybrid Eclipse in that class. She’s also been looking pretty good in workouts since that outing. Hybrid Eclipse completed 5 furlongs in 1:00.20 on November 13. Prior to that workout. Hybrid Eclipse was clocked at 35.60 seconds for 3 furlongs. With her opening race out of the way, expect Hybrid Eclipse to show some improvement from here on out. Patty H is the most experienced horse running today.
She’s finished 3rd, 2nd, 4th, 2nd in her career, which dates back to June 18. In two of her previous three entries Patty H placed 2nd. The first took place on July 8 at Keeneland for a $70,000 purse. Patty H had the lead late in the stretch, but Puye Timing caught her for a half length win. In her most recent outing, Patty H placed 2nd behind Littlestitious by a half length for another $70,000 purse. A big class drop should help this $125,000 horse out a lot on Friday. She was getting close at the $70,000 level, and should deliver in this $45,000 event.

The feature event of the day is for a $87,000 purse in Race 8. Verb and American Mandate are on my watchlist for the race. Verb has been a model of consistency over the last seven races, which goes back to the beginning of his career on May 19, 2019. It includes a Grade 3 entry in the $125,000 Bashford Manor Stakes.
Verb didn’t win, though was solid enough to grab show money. He finally broke through for the first win of his career on May 23. After finishing in the top-3 in six straight races to open his career, Verb defeated Belfast Boy for a $79,000 purse by ¾ lengths. That win prompts a jump in class for Verb to a $87,000 race on Friday.
American Mandate is 1 for 19 in his career and coming off some productive performances. He’s finished in the top-3 in three straight performances, and has been there in five out of six outings. American Mandate placed 2nd behind Williston Way by a nose in a $71,000 race.
American Mandate was the favorite in that one, but was edged out for the win. Expect American Mandate to run another crisp race on Friday, but better value is likely found elsewhere. I will take my chances on Verb, who has never been outside of the top-3 in his career and looked good in a $79,000 win recently.
