Churchill Downs Selections for November 25, 2021 – Horse Racing Picks

Thanksgiving football and Thanksgiving horse racing on Thursday. NFL football is the main show on Thanksgiving. The NBA and NHL both have the day off, while the NFL takes centerstage. If you don’t want to bet on the NFL, there’s also some college basketball and horse racing on Thursday.

You can also find a couple of college football games, an afternoon clash between Fresno State and San Jose State, and then the Egg Bowl between Ole Miss and Mississippi State tonight. The Rebels and Bulldogs are just a watch game for me. It should be entertaining, but tough to call from a betting perspective.

As far as horse racing is concerned, which is why you’re here, the $500,000 Falls City Stakes (Gr. 2) at Churchill Downs is the feature on Thanksgiving. Then things pick up on Black Friday with the $750,000 Clark Stakes (Gr. 1) at Churchill Downs. There are at least 11 stakes races in the US on Friday.

There are seven tracks open for wagering in North America on Thursday. Our first stop is at Churchill Downs this afternoon. Churchill Downs has 12 races worth $1,420,000 in prize money today. Head below for free Churchill Downs picks for November 25, 2021.

Distance:1 1/16 Miles
Purse:$32,000

The first race at Churchill Downs is a $32,000 morning event covering 1 1/16 miles on the dirt. Pickford and Heirloom Kitten should have something to do in the stretch.

Pickford is 5 for 34 in his career and has finished 5th, 5th, 3rd, 2nd in his previous four attempts. He is coming off a good bid to place 2nd behind Altito by a half length for a $26,000 purse.

Prior to that attempt, Pickford showed 3rd in a $32,000 assignment on October 21 at Keeneland. Against this field expect Pickford to go well.

Heirloom Kitten is 4 for 19 in his career, and should have a big chance in this one. He is coming off a decent effort to finish 4th on October 27 in a $32,000 race.

Prior to that run, Heirloom Kitten showed 3rd in a $56,000 event. That’s more like what Heirloom Kitten is capable of doing. If Heirloom Kitten runs like that, it’s going to be a win on Thursday.

Post Time: 12:55 p.m. EST
Distance:6 ½ Furlongs
Purse:$72,000

Race 4 is a $72,000 event covering 6 ½ furlongs on the dirt. Look at Super Wonder Girl and Front Street for the top prize in this one.

Super Wonder Girl is 1 for 13 in her career, and has finished 2nd, 3rd, 2nd, 5th in her previous four events. In her most recent outing, Super Wonder Girl finished 5th in a $127,000 event on November 12.

The mare placed 2nd behind Sugar Love by 1 ½ lengths in a $47,000 assignment on March 6 before that run. Super Wonder Girl has to be worth some consideration at this price from the inside rail.

Front Street is a one-time winner in 13 attempts on October 2. She beat On the Rise by 1 ½ lengths for a $58,000 prize.

Front Street came back on November 10 to place 2nd behind Sense You Left by a half length for a $72,000 purse. She should get there at the wire in this form.

Post Time: 4:22 p.m. EST
Distance:1 ⅛ Miles
Purse:$500,000

The Falls City Stakes (Gr. 2) is the race of the day in North America. This $500,000 Grade 2 event goes for 1 ⅛ miles on the dirt.

Army Wife and Bonny South should have a strong go at the top prize on Thanksgiving. Army Wife is 4 for 11 in her career, and has finished in the top-3 in eight straight outings.

She has finished 1st, 1st, 3rd, 3rd in her previous four attempts. In her latest win, Army Wife defeated Shesa Mystery by 3 ¾ lengths in the $225,000 Iowa Oaks (Gr. 3) on July 2.

In her latest race, Army Wife showed 3rd in the $1,000,000 Cotillion Stakes (Gr .1). That was pretty good given the difficulty level.

Bonny South is 4 for 13 in her career, and has finished in the top-3 in seven of her last eight outings. She placed 2nd behind Letruska in a very impressive bid against a very good horse on August 28 at Saratoga.

That was a nice attempt against one of the best fillies. Bonny South finished a half length behind in the $600,000 Personal Ensign Stakes (Gr. 1).

She returned on October 10 and looked good again. Bonny South showed 3rd in the $500,000 Juddmonte Spinster Stakes (Gr. 1). She stayed on and was close again against Letruska.

This should be a fun main event on Thanksgiving. Army Wife and Bonny Wife could get into a duel. For the value, Army Wife has to be the horse to look at in the Falls City.
