Churchill Downs Selections for November 26, 2020 – Horse Racing Picks

We are back on the racetrack on Thanksgiving looking for winning horses. Thanksgiving is known for football, but it’s also a day for the ponies as well. Horse racing never stops no matter the day. If you want something to bet on, it’s a sure bet that horse racing is going to be available. In the overnight hours you can head overseas to a racecourse in Europe or Australia if you have insomnia.

Horse racing is big in the UK and Australia, so there are no shortage of options. BetOnline has five courses available for betting on Thursday. Fair Grounds is back on Thursday, as they begin their winter meet in New Orleans today. The big race to note coming up is the $500,000 Clark Handicap (Gr. 1) at Churchill Downs on Friday. Code of Honor headlines that field in Louisville.

Distance:6 ½ Furlongs
Purse:$25,000

Race 2 runs for 6 ½ furlongs on the main track for a $25,000 purse. Royal Commission and Reason to Soar look like solid options for the shortlist. Royal Commission is 4 for 11 in his career and has finished in the top-3 in six straight performances. That includes three wins and in his most recent appearance on November 11.

Royal Commission won by 1 ¼ lengths over Loopallu in a $25,000 event. He was in fine form and edged clear in the stretch for the win. Prior to that win, Royal Commission showed 3rd in a $21,000 assignment. The move up in class didn’t hurt at all. In fact, he was the favorite to win that $25,000 race. He was an underdog in the $21,000 event.

Reason to Soar has been in hot form and it could continue on Thanksgiving. He eyes a hat-trick today after winning on September 25 and October 24. Reason to Soar beat Royal Commission for a $22,000 purse by 3 ½ lengths in the September outing. And then Reason to Soar followed up to beat Laddie Boy by 3 lengths.

Along with those two wins, Reason to Soar has finished 1st, 2nd, 1st, 1st in four straight performances. He has a win in three of his last four races and a win in three of four. Overall, this $110,000 horse is 7 for 26 in his career. Reason to Soar should add to that win total with another on Thanksgiving.

Post Time: 12:55 p.m. EST
Distance:1 Mile
Purse:$43,500

Race 4 is a mile event for $43,500 in prize money. Seven horses are expected to run in the race. Charlie’sarchangel and Lone Rock should have a good go of it for the top prize. Charlie’sarchangel is 6 for 25 in his career, and is coming off one of his best runs in a while on November 5.

He ended a winless drought of four straight races without a win. Charlie’sarchangel beat Hardly a Secret by 1 ¾ lengths in the November win for a $35,000 purse. He is coming off a productive workout on November 5 with a time of 1:00.20 at furlongs.

Lone Rock is coming off a big performance as well. He has finished 8th, 11th, 7th, 2nd, 5th, 1st in his previous five outings. Throughout his 26-race career, Lone Rock has a bit of graded experience. Overall, he is 6 for 27 in his career, which started back on July 20, 2017. After sliding down in class Lone Rock looked much better on October 21 at Keeneland. Lone Rock won by ¾ lengths over Two Thirty Five in a $39,000 assignment.

Preceding that win was 5th on August 23 in a $76,000 event. There was a good reason for Lone Rock to enter a $76,000 event. Prior to the outing, Lone Rock was just a half length away in a $62,000 event. He was determined in the stretch, but ultimately came up just short. In any case, Lone Rock is way down in class now and should continue to produce for his connections on Thursday.

Post Time: 3:53 p.m. EST
Distance:5 Furlongs
Purse:$200,000

The $200,000 Falls City Handicap (Gr. 2) is the feature event of the afternoon at Churchill Downs. This should be a good one between Envoutante and Bonny South in the stretch. Envoutante is 3 for 8 in her career, and she is coming off a strong performance in the $100,000 Remington Park Oaks (Gr. 3). Envoutante was a winner over Paige Ann by 3 ¼ lengths as the heavy favorite. There was no denying Envoutante on September 27.

This came after Envoutante finished 3rd in the $400,000 Ashland Stakes (Gr. 1) on July 11, and 4th in the $500,000 Alabama Stakes (Gr. 1). Swiss Skydiver was way too much for that field, as she crushed the competition to win the Alabama Stakes by 3 ½ lengths. The win in the Remington Park Oaks was the first graded win for Envoutante in her career. Overall, she is 3 for 8, with the other two wins in an allowance and maiden special weight event.

Bonny South has already beaten Envoutante in her career. She ran in the Alabama Stakes as well on August 15. It was a solid effort by Bonny South, as she placed 2nd behind Swiss Skydiver. Her connections had to be happy with the result. Bonny South took $100,000 out of the $500,000 purse in that performance.

She is 3 for 7 in her career, with top-2 performances in five of her previous six performances. In her most recent performance, Bonny South placed 2nd in the $500,000 George E. Mitchell Black-Eyed Susan Stakes (Gr. 2) on October 3. She looks like the one to beat here. I am going to side with Bonny South to get the win in the feature race on Thursday.
