Onward to Tuesday where BetOnline has five racecourses available for wagering. Indiana Grand returns to the mix, as they open their spring and summer meet this week. That’s great for us, with more options on the racetrack to handicap. Note that BetOnline lists Indiana Grand as Indiana Downs at the racebook. It was previously known as Indiana Downs, and a lot of people still call it the same, so just to avoid some confusion for some people.
The Road to the Kentucky Derby is in the books, and all we have left to do is wait patiently for May 1. It doesn’t mean there isn’t any big events coming up sooner, though. Oaklawn Park has a couple of million dollar races on Saturday in Hot Springs. The Apple Blossom Handicap (Gr. 1) is the only Grade 1 event on Saturday. It’s been a couple of big weekends for Oaklawn Park, who just hosted the Arkansas Derby (Gr. 1).
Our first stop on Tuesday afternoon is at Delta Downs in Louisiana. Delta Downs has ten races with a total of $254,000 in prize money available in Vinton. Head below for our free Delta Downs picks for April 13, 2021.
Post Time: 2:43 p.m. CST
In our first selection at Delta Downs, we have 5 furlongs of racing for a $24,000 purse. Nine horses are scheduled to run with Hooray Austin and Dixie Street likely coming close at the wire. Hooray Austin is down in class after failing to win since July 10. Hooray Austin has gone winless in eight in a row. He has finished 5th, 10th, 7th, 7th in his previous four entries.
In his most recent attempts, Hooray Austin finished 7th in a $100,000 event on February 10 in the LA Bred Premier Sprint Stakes, and then 7th in a $27,000 event. Despite dropping from a $100,000 to a $27,000 race, it didn’t make any difference. However, Hooray Austin continues to slide in class and might have found a sweet spot on Tuesday.
Dixie Street has been the more consistent horse. He has finished 2nd, 2nd, 1st, 3rd, 1st in his last five performances. He was a winner over Outlaw X. by a head for a $61,000 purse on March 21. That was a nice effort by Dixie Street, who also scored a 6 ½ length win in a $21,000 event in February. That was too easy for Dixie Street, and he looked strong in a $61,000 race. He should be able to get it done on Tuesday afternoon on these terms.

Distance:6 ½ Furlongs
Race 6 is a 6 ½ furlong race for a $20,000 purse. 12 horses are expected to run in this event on Tuesday afternoon. I would pay attention to what Our Blue Jay and Shady Grady has to offer in this event. Shady Grady is winless in eight races, though finally got into the top-3 most recently on March 15.
Shady Grady showed 3rd in a $20,000 event. Despite the loss, Shady Grady was only 1 length away from the winner in that race. It was a nice run after Shady Grady finished 6th on February 4 in a $14,000 assignment. Shady Grady finished outside of the top-4 in seven straight races to begin his career before getting into the money.
Our Blue Jay is winless in six attempts, going 9th, 2nd, 5th, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd in six races. While he hasn’t won yet, Our Blue Jay has been getting close. He has placed 2nd in three straight performances going into this afternoon. Our Blue Jay placed 2nd behind Daddy Cool Cat by ¾ lengths in a $35,000 event on January 21. Prior to that effort, Our Blue Jay was 2nd by a neck as a longshot in a $35,000 race. Down to a $20,000 event on Tuesday, the nod goes to Our Blue Jay to win.
