Delta Downs Selections for January 26, 2021 – Horse Racing Picks

Delta Downs Selections for January 26, 2021 – Horse Racing Picks

There are four more racecourses online Tuesday at BetOnline. It’s the same four from yesterday, as Turf Paradise, Parx, Louisiana Downs, and Delta Downs are expected to run. Turf Paradise had to cancel on Monday because of high winds, rain, and snow. The horsemen in Arizona can’t catch any breaks. They are already well behind after a scheduled meet start in October was pushed back to January. Scattered rain is in the forecast on Tuesday, so it’s up in the air whether the Tuesday card drops at Turf Paradise. I’m just going to stay away from Turf Paradise on Tuesday because of the uncertainty. There are still three other options at BetOnline today.

We will check out what is up at Delta Downs and Louisiana Downs on Tuesday. If you like Louisiana racing, then you’re going to like today. Delta Downs is also a Louisiana based track. They have nine races worth a total of $160,000 on Tuesday up for grabs. Head below for our free Delta Downs picks for January 26, 2021.

Post Time: 1:49 p.m. CST
Distance:6 ½ Furlongs
Purse:$30,000

Race 3 is our first look at Delta Downs on Tuesday. This 6 ½ furlong event is worth a $30,000 purse, which is the second biggest event at Delta Downs today. I’m considering Rather Precocious and Bluegrass Pharoah to get the win in this one. Rather Precocious made his debut on December 2 and he ran well to place 2nd behind Sermononthemount by 1 length for a $30,000 purse.

That was a solid run out of the gate, and he looked good in the morning since then. Rather Precocious completed 4 furlongs in 48.40 seconds. Not bad for a horse that was purchased for $6,500. Expect to see Rather Precocious should run in this performance. He will likely have to contend with Bluegrass Pharaoh for the top prize in Race 3.

Bluegrass Pharaoh is making his sixth appearance on Tuesday. He has finished 3rd, 9th, 2nd, 3rd, 4th in his career. In the race he placed in, Bluegrass Pharaoh placed 2nd behind Privet Moon by 4 lengths in a $31,000 assignment on October 21. Then Bluegrass Pharaoh followed up to finish 3rd and 4th. In his most recent outing, Bluegrass Pharaoh finished 4th in a tougher race than this. Bluegrass Pharaoh should be able to clear this weak field on Tuesday afternoon.

(10) Kaydees
+3000 (30/1)

Post Time: 2:16 p.m. CST
Distance:7 ½ Furlongs
Purse:$14,000

Race 4 is a 7 ½ event for a $14,000 purse on the main track. This looks like a race between Miss Neko and Mitch’s Pins. Miss Neko is looking for a bounce-back performance after finishing 5th in her latest performance on December 21. Prior to that loss, Miss Neko finished 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 1st. She was a winner on July 9 two races ago in a $17,000 assignment.

Miss Neko defeated Duepeg by 3 ½ lengths as the betting favorite. After a brief layoff, Miss Neko returned in December and struggled in a $13,000 event. Something was off there for Miss Neko. Expect her to look better on Tuesday, but I don’t think I’m ready to back her before she returns to form.

If she runs how she was earlier in 2020, then sure, Miss Neko can clear this field. However, she didn’t look the same in her last showing. Mitch’s Pins from the No. 2 post position should have a strong case in this one as well. She has finished 1st, 5th, 1st in her previous three outings and in good form.

Mitch’s Pins beat Lauralee Cocodree by 1 ¾ lengths for a $12,000 prize, and most recently found the winner’s circle again on January 7. Mitch’s Pins cleared the field by 1 ½ lengths in an impressive wire-to-wire win in a $13,000 outing. I will take my chances on the horse in better form and better price on Tuesday afternoon in Race 4.

(8) Yes Bab
+500 (5/1)
(9) Tactical Priority
+2000 (20/1)
(10) Smiling Song
+600 (6/1)
(11) Grillin
+250 (5/2)

Post Time: 4:07 p.m. CST
Distance:5 Furlongs
Purse:$36,000

Race 8 is the feature event at Delta Downs on Tuesday in Louisiana. Alluring Actor and Alterana are horses to watch in this performance. Alterana is 2 for 18 in his career, and has had some success since the summer in August. However, it’s been more of a bumpy ride most recently, having finished 5th, 2nd, 5th in his previous three outings.

He finished 5th on November 25 in a $36,000 event, and then placed 2nd on December 7. In that entry, Alterana placed 2nd behind Johnnysjourney by 2 ¾ lengths in a $36,000 assignment. However, reverted right back to 5th on January 6 in another $36,000 race. He’s been good but inconsistent. Which Alterana are we going to see on Tuesday? Alluring Actor is going to provide some resistance.

Alluring Actor is 4 for 21 in his career and looking strong recently. He has finished 1st and 2nd in his previous two performances. Alluring Actor defeated Allthewaywithtaye by a neck in a $18,000 assignment, and then came back to place 2nd behind Bayou Bode by a neck for a $36,000 prize. It should be close, and I’m going to take my chances on the horse with a better price on Alterana at +400 on the morning-line.
