The Wednesday horse racing card at BetOnline includes eight racecourses open for wagering. It’s a Delta Downs day, as they have one of their biggest cards on the calendar today. There is nearly a million in prize money up for grabs at Delta Downs on Wednesday. A total of ten stakes races are expected to be run in Vinton, which accounts for every race. It’s nice to have some stakes racing at the $100,000+ level during the week.
However, things are about to get turned up over the weekend, as the stakes card is going to be packed across the country. There are seven tracks in the US with at least one stakes race, which includes the $600,000 Razorback Handicap (Gr. 3) at Oaklawn Park and $400,000 Risen Star Stakes (Gr. 2) at Fair Grounds Race Course.
We’ll handicap the Delta Downs card on Wednesday and hope to find some winners in Vinton. It’s a big card for Delta Downs, with $805,000 in prize money available. Along with Delta Downs, check out our horse racing page for more picks on Wednesday. Head below for our free Delta Downs picks for February 10, 2021.
Race 2 – Starter Stakes
Post Time: 1:23 p.m. CST
There are four Starter Stakes at Delta Downs on Wednesday. This event will cover a mile on the main track for $50,000. Star Gaze and Kris T. are going to be hot runners in this race, or should be if they show up to the track wanting to run. Star Gaze is 7 for 30 in her career with two wins in her previous three performances.
She was a winner on August 24 over Champagnerie by 1 ¾ lengths in a $8,500 event, but then was tied up for 6th thereafter on January 4. Star Gaze was able to bounce back in her latest entry for a 1 length win over Nana’s Joy on January 14 for a $18,000 purse.
There was also an additional $16,000 in prize money from additional sources added to the pool, so it turned out to be a pretty nice win. In her previous seven outings, Star Gaze has been in the top-2 in five out of seven entries.
It’s hard to foresee her being far away from the front at the wire.Kris T. has been steamrolling the competition of late, and picked up where she left off from in 2020. She ranked 65th in the country in wins last year, and hasn’t lost a race she’s entered in 2021. Kris T. enters with four straight wins.
In two 2021 wins, Kris T. beat Matapan by a head in a $20,000 event, $15,000 from other sources, on January 4, and then followed up to record four straight wins on January 19 for a 3 ¾ length win in a $24,000 race, an additional $22,000 from other sources.
Along with four straight wins, Kris T. is a winner in five of his last six. Star Gaze has the talent to stop her, though it’s not going to be easy. Kris T. is the class of this race and should continue to stomp the competition.
Race 7 – Louisiana Bred Premier Distaff Stakes
Post Time: 3:54 p.m. CST
The $100,000 Louisiana Bred Premier Distaff Stakes is a $100,000 race on the dirt covering a mile. It should be a good one between 12 horses, with She’s Gone d’Wild and Net a Bear on my shortlist to win. She’s Gone d’Wild just has to be included because of the value as an underdog. She is 3 for 7 in her career and a winner in three of her previous five outings.
She’s Gone d’Wild has a nice strike rate, but will be dealing with her biggest challenge yet. In her most recent outing, She’s Gone d’Wild beat Afleet Moon by 1 ¼ lengths in a $49,000 event. Prior to that win, she was a winner in August as well, with a 6 ½ length win for a $33,000 purse. That was much too easy for She’s Gone d’Wild, so she edged up in class.
Net a Bear is the most experienced runner in this class, and has stakes experience going into today. In 7 of 20 entries, Net a Bear has run in stakes races, with three wins. In her previous four outings, Net a Bear has gone 2nd, 5th, 2nd, 1st. She placed 2nd behind Room to Finish by 1 ½ lengths in a $100,000 event on December 12 in the Louisiana Champions Day Ladies Turf Stakes.
She was able to return on January 7 for a blowout win for a 9 ½ length win at the $48,000 level. If Net a Bear brings the same form of that race, or even the stakes race she lost in December, a win shouldn’t be that far away for Net a Bear. As the most accomplished runner in Race 7, Net a Bear looks like the right play.
Race 8 – Louisiana Bred Premier Matron Stakes
Post Time: 4:24 p.m. CST
Race 8 is a $100,000 event on the dirt with the running of the Louisiana Bred Premier Matron Stakes. Our Lost Love and Mr. Al’s Gal shouldn’t be too far away at the wire. Our Lost Love has had a pretty successful career thus far with a 6 for 13 strike rate. For a $16,000 purchase, it’s hard to complain about what Our Last Love has done.
She has finished 3rd, 2nd, 1st, 5th in her previous four outings. Our Last Love beat Mr. Al’s Gal by a nose in the $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Ladies Sprint Stakes on December 12. Mr. Al’s Gal was gaining fast late, but was able to hang on for a close win. Just a little more room, and Mr. Al’s Gal would have sneaked up and taken the win.
Her next performance was disappointing, as Our Lost Love finished 5th in the $60,000 Orleans Stakes. She weakened significantly throughout the race, from 1st at the 3/16 pole to 2nd at the top of the stretch and then 5th. Mr. Al’s Gal gets her rematch against Our Lost Love on Wednesday. Mr. Al’s Gal has been a consistent force, going in the top-2 in four straight and six of her previous seven.
Following the close call versus Our Lost Love, Mr. Al’s Gal responded with a win on January 15 at Fair Grounds in a $48,000 event after rallying late to catch Fame Feather. I’m going to side with Mr. Al’s Gal to extract a little revenge in this race.
