We have plenty of racing on the agenda Thursday, as BetOnline has eight race tracks available for wagering. It’s the lead in to the Pegasus Weekend at Gulfstream Park on Saturday. There are no stakes races today, but the $150,000 Smarty Jones Stakes will get us started tomorrow at Oaklawn. Oaklawn returns on Thursday to get their winter meet started in Arkansas.
Saturday has a total of 11 stakes races, with Gulfstream Park the center of attention. There are seven events at Gulfstream, with the $3,000,000 Pegasus World Cup Invitational (Gr. 1) and $1,000,000 Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational (Gr. 1) the headliners in Hallandale Beach and the US. The $200,000 Inside Information Stakes (Gr. 2) follows as the next biggest race.
Delta Downs has nine races worth a total of $180,000 in prize money on Thursday. We will head to Delta Downs in Louisiana looking for a winning day. Head below for our free Delta Downs picks for January 21, 2021.

Distance:6 ½ Furlongs
Race 2 is a $15,000 event on the dirt covering 6 ½ furlongs. Runpeggyrun and Champagne Affair should give a good run for the top prize here. Runpeggyrun has been in nice form and continues to show improvement recently. She has finished 3rd, 2nd, 1st in her previous three outings.
Runpeggyrun has finished in the top-3 in 6 of her previous 7 entries, including a win in her last performance on January 12. She placed 2nd behind At Once by 3 ¼ lengths in a $14,000 event on December 23, and then came back to do a spot better on January 12. She beat Shelby To by 2 ½ lengths in a $18,000 race. Champagne Affair hasn’t been in the winner’s circle since a win on July 21 in a $10,500 at Canterbury Park.
Following that win, Champagne Affair edged up in class, only to lose with finishes of 3rd, 2nd, 4th, 4th. In her most recent outing, she finished 4th in a $20,000 event. Back down in class, you have to like what Champagne Affair brings to the mix in Race 2. This is her easiest event since the win in the summer and it should show. I will support Champagne Affair for the win.

Race 3 is the co-feature event at Delta Downs on Thursday afternoon. Harriet’s Dream and Scampering Grayce appear to be in a good position to win in this spot. Harriet’s Dream made her first start on December 21 and ran an okay race. She finished 4th in a $35,000 assignment as a first-time runner.
It wasn’t bad, wasn’t great, but something to build on for Harriet’s Dream. She completed 4 furlongs in 52.60 seconds on January 14. If Harriet’s Dream is open to improvement after her debut, then you have to like her chances to come up big in the stretch.
Scampering Grayce has been showing improvement after finishing 4th and 10th in her first two outings. Since then, Scampering Grayce has placed 2nd in back-to-back events on November 27 and December 9. In the first of those two runs, she placed 2nd behind Birdie Call by 3 lengths in a $35,000 assignment.
In her next assignment, Scampering Grayce placed 2nd behind Enduring Peace by a head in a $22,000 outing. This is up in class and back to $35,000, but if Scampering Grayce runs how she’s expected to, a win should be within reach against this weak field.

In our final pick at Delta Downs, we will handicap this mile event for a $12,000 prize. Race 4 covers a mile on the dirt. Silent Trick and Ebony Bay look like hot picks to get the win here. Silent Trick is 2 for 13 in her career, having finished in the top-3 in 4 of her last 5 entries. In her most recent outing, Silent Trick placed 2nd behind Lady Rad by a head for a $12,000 purse. This was after Silent Trick beat Zugersee by ¾ lengths in a $12,000 race on December 14.
Ebony Bay is 2 for 9 and has been the most consistent runner in this event. She has been in the top-2 in six straight performances, including two wins with her most on December 13. Ebony Bay defeated Miss Sooner Girl by 5 ¼ lengths in a $12,000 event.
That was much too easy, but Ebony Bay will remain in the same class against what appears to be a beatable field. Prior to the win, Ebony Bay lost by a nose on December 2 at Remington Park. The transfer to Delta Downs did her some good. Expect Ebony Bay to keep on powering on at Delta Downs with another win on Thursday.
