Delta Downs Selections for January 25, 2021 – Horse Racing Picks

We’re back on the racetrack Monday looking for winning horses in the US. There are four tracks available for wagering at BetOnline. If you are searching for Mahoning Valley, which is active today as well, you will have to go to MyBookie. BetOnline has the highest limits, though, and it’s not even close compared to the other racebooks online. If you just want to get your feet wet with horse racing, then BetOnline also has a $25.00 risk-free option for one bet.

Signing up and playing with BetOnline also includes 7% cashback on your horse racing losses. We had no losses on Saturday during the biggest day of the month in January for horse racing. It was a clean sweep with three picks and three wins at Gulfstream Park for the Pegasus. There are only a handful of racecourses operating on Monday, but I still believe we can do something with it.

Distance:6 ½ Furlongs

Race 2 is our first selection at Delta Downs on Monday afternoon. This is a race that will cover 6 ½ furlongs on the dirt for a $33,000 purse. The two horses on the inside, Double Star and Gotta Go are my favorite runners in this race.

Double Star is a winner in two of his previous three entries. Overall, he is 6 for 25 in his career, and has been in top form recently. Note that Double Star has finished in the top-2 in four straight outings.

In Double Star’s recent wins, he beat Stephen’s Answer by 1 ½ lengths in a $21,000 event on July 14. He followed up to place 2nd behind Tapizars Secret by 1 length on November 30 up in class in a $33,000 assignment.

Despite the loss, Double Star responded to get right back in the winner’s circle on December 10 over Pound for Pound by 1 ½ lengths in an impressive trip. In the same class on Monday, expect Double Star to be a competitive runner for the top prize.

Gotta Go is in even better form, having won three of his previous four tilts and searching for a hat-trick on Monday. He has been in the top-2 in seven straight events, which includes five wins. In his last two wins, Gotta Go beat Hooray Austin by 5 ¼ lengths in a $32,000 race.

He didn’t stop there, as Gotta Go returned to the winner’s circle on December 8 after a 10 length blowout in a $20,000 race. That was much too easy, but Gotta Go is back up competing for more money. This is where he should be. It’s going to be tougher, but more than manageable. I would side with Gotta Go for a win bet.

Post Time: 3:39 p.m. CST
Distance:1 Mile

Race 7 is our second and final selection at Delta Downs on Monday afternoon. We have a mile race on the dirt for a $12,000 purse in this one. Nine horses are expected to participate, with a runner from the outside, and in the middle of the field catching my attention. Baptism and Shanghai Mike should do well in this race.

Baptism is 2 for 12 and he’s coming off one of the better efforts of his career. He has finished 9th, 8th, 4th, 2nd in his previous four entries. Baptism’s last win was back in June at Fair Meadows. He beat Crossbow Cimarron as a heavy favorite in a wire-to-wire domination for the top prize in a $17,600 event.

Baptism hasn’t had that same success since then, but showed improvement recently on January 6. He placed 2nd behind Grand Omega by a head for a $12,000 purse. Baptism was better, but was the betting favorite in that one and expected to win. They dueled on the inside, with Baptism holding a lead going into the stretch and just giving it up.

Shanghai Mike is 2 for 9 in his career, and had a recent trip to the winner’s circle two races ago. He beat Heisfancy by 3 ¾ lengths in a $10,000 event on July 31. Shanghai Mike came back out on August 21 and showed 3rd in a $14,500 assignment most recently on August 21. That was too tough, but still ran well, and down in class to the $12,000 level, the advantage should lean towards Shanghai Mike from the outside.
