BetOnline has three racecourses available for wagering at Turf Paradise, Delta Downs, and Parx. Parx isn’t tickling my fancy, but Delta Downs and Turf Paradise look interesting. We have Turf Paradise covered with three selections in Arizona if you are interested in more ponies. The stakes schedule will ramp up again on January 9 with the running of $200,000 La Canada Stakes (Gr. 3).
However, it isn’t until January 23 at Gulfstream Park when things will begin to get really interesting. The $3,000,000 Pegasus World Cup Invitational (Gr. 1) and $1,000,000 Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational (Gr. 1) are the most highly anticipated events of early 2021. The road to the $30,000,000 Saudi Cup Weekend, which is scheduled for late February, goes through Gulfstream Park. Delta Downs has nine races on the schedule worth a total of $245,000 in prize money. Head below for our free Delta Downs picks for January 5, 2021.

Race 3 is our first selection at Delta Downs, which goes for a mile on the dirt for a $35,000 purse. Abigail’s Beauty and Eileen Alexandra should run a good race in this one. Abigail’s Beauty is winless in two races with finishes of 4th and 6th. She finished 4th as a first-time runner on September 5, and then 6th most recently on November 1.
In her last race, Abigail’s Beauty was 6th in a $29,000 event. Abigail’s Beauty will jump up in class to a $35,000 assignment on Tuesday, but this shouldn’t be particularly difficult. The one horse that can easily stop Abigail’s Beauty in her tracks is Eileen Alexandra. Eileen Alexandra is 3rd, 9th, 2nd in her career.
She has failed to win in three races, but looked impressive on December 7. After transferring from Churchill Downs to Delta Downs, Eileen Alexandra placed 2nd behind Non Binding by 2 ½ lengths in a $35,000 race. The money expected Eileen Alexandra to win, but didn’t follow through. She might have an even better chance to grab the first win of her career on Tuesday.

Race 5 is another race that peaks my interest on Tuesday afternoon at Delta Downs. Pi Yo Princess and Knight’s Honor should run well for the top prize in this event. Knight’s Honor will look to move up after finishing 4th on December 3 for a $30,000 purse.
She was looking good early, but faded off following the halfway mark. Knight’s Honor will have to ghold better if she wants to do better. She had the lead at the ⅜ pole by a head, but fell off from there. In her most recent workout, Knight’s Honor completed 4 furlongs in 49.80 seconds.
Pi Yo Princess is making her debut on Tuesday and is expected to have a promising career for Thomas Amoss. She was a $52,000 purchase in May and has been impressive in workouts. Pi Yo Princess was clocked at 48.60 seconds on December 28. She is expected to have a better career than Knight’s Honor and most in this career. I am going with Pi Yo Princess to record the win in Race 5.

Distance:6 ½ Furlongs
Race 7 is our last selection at Delta Downs on Tuesday. This is a $36,000 event for 6 ½ furlongs of racing on the dirt. Strong Rules and G’wildcat should run a close race in this one. G’wildcat has finished 1st, 3rd, 4th in his career, so unfortunately he’s fallen off, but might be able to bounce back here.
He was a 1 length winner over Chu Chu’s Legacy in a $28,000 event. Since that win, G’wildcat finished 3rd in the $28,000 D.S. Shine Young Futurity on August 29, and then 4th in the $50,000 Louisiana Cup Juvenile Stakes (Black Type) on September 19. Down in class from that event, G’wildcat should at least get into the top-3 and show here.
Strong Rules has looked good in two races, having beaten Hpnotiq Rhythm by 3 lengths in a $24,000 event. He followed up to place 2nd behind Heart Full of Soul by 2 lengths in the $50,000 Shakopee Juvenile Stakes (Black Type). Strong Rules came on late, but Heart Full of Soul had the lead from early and held in that one. It was still an impressive run for Strong Rules. Another performance like that and he’s in the winner’s circle today.
