We’re fresh off a big win at Penn National Race Course on the Daily Double and Pick 3. If you played both Daily Doubles and the Pick 3, then it was a really nice payday. Even if you just bet the Pick 3, then it was still a very profitable day at Penn National. The payout on the $2.00 wager was $14.80 for the Pick 3, so extrapolate that to a $100.00 bet and you are sitting pretty. It doesn’t compare to the Pick 5 win I had at Churchill Downs in May, but still a very good day nonetheless. Winning a Pick 5 isn’t going to be a consistent thing, but a multi-bet with one big payout can be enough to carry a bankroll for months and months, if you play your bankroll management game plan correctly.
We are going to begin Saturday at Fair Grounds in Louisiana. The New Orleans based racetrack has seven stakes races on the card, the most today in the US. A total of $1,183,000 is in play across 13 races at Fair Grounds on Saturday. There is a mix of quarter horse and thoroughbred racing. It’s a busy day in New Orleans, and hopefully we can add to our profits from yesterday at Penn National. Head below for our free Fair Grounds Race Course picks for December 12, 2020.
Race 1 – Louisiana Champions Day QH Juvenile Stakes
Post Time: 12:00 p.m. CST
We will start at Fair Grounds with a 350-yard quarter horse race for a $100,000 purse. This is a 12-horse field that includes some quality horses. I’m looking at the two horses on the inside for the Louisiana Champions Day QH Juvenile Stakes. Bp Fancy Girl and Sheza Freighttrain T should be in the mix at the wire in this event.
Bp Fancy Girl has been in good form and catching a nice price. The concern with her, though, is that this is much more difficult than what she’s experienced in the past. She has finished in the top-2 in five straight races, including three wins, two of which were in Futurity Trials. Bp Fancy Girl won the $10,000 Lassie Futurity Trial with a time of 16.897 seconds at 330 yards on June 12.
In her most recent outing, Bp Fancy Girl won the $7,000 LQHBA Million Futurity Trial with a time of 19.893 seconds at 400 yards on November 21. This race is a huge step up for Bp Fancy Girl on Saturday in the $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day QH Juvenile Stakes. In any case, she’s dominated and has recorded some impressive times.
Sheza Freighttrain T has been in terrific form in much tougher races. She has Grade 2 and Grade 1 experience, with appearances in the $315,166 Mardi Gras Futurity (Gr. 2), $329,410 Lassie Futurity (Gr. 1), and $475,851 LQHBA Sale Futurity (Gr. 1). She was 2nd, 1st, 2nd in those two races. Overall, through six races, Sheza Freighttrain has finished 1st, 2nd, 1st, 1st, 1st, 2nd. This looks like a winnable event for Sheza Freighttrain T.
Race 9 – Louisiana Champions Day Sprint Stakes
Post Time: 3:54 p.m. CST
Race 9 is for the $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Sprint Stakes on Saturday afternoon at Fair Grounds. A nine-horse field is expected to run in the event. Bertie’s Galaxy and Laughingsaintssong are likely to run well for the top prize in Race 9. Bertie’s Galaxy is 5 for 12 in his career, with finishes in the top-2 in seven of his last eight performances, four of those were wins. His last win was in a $21,000 allowance event on August 22.
Bertie’s Galaxy placed 2nd behind Saltee Stark by a half length in the $50,000 Louisiana Cup Sprint Stakes (Black Type) in his most recent entry on September 19. Laughingsaintssong finished 5th in that race, but is capable of a lot more. It might have been an outlier for Laughingsaintssong, as he looked much better prior to that outing. He won the $60,000 Louisiana Legends Sprint Stakes (Black Type) on July 4 over Scarlettsblackjack by 1 ¾ lengths.
Bertie’s Galaxy finished 7th in that race. Note that Laughingsaintssong finished in the top-3 in seven straight performances, including four wins and top-2 in five out of seven races. Overall, Laughingsaintssong is 10 for 27 in his career and has a good opportunity of adding another win to his resume on Friday.
Race 11 – Louisiana Champions Day Turf Stakes
Post Time: 4:52 p.m. CST
Distance:1 1/16 Miles
Race 11 is another stakes event at Fair Grounds on Saturday. We head to the grass for the Louisiana Champions Day Turf Stakes in Race 11. Budro Talking and Ninety One Assault are going to be hot commodities in this event. Budro Talking is a back-to-back winner in good form right now. He won on August 4 in a $21,000 event by 1 ¼ lengths over Destiny Awaits, and then followed up to beat Nippy Red by 1 ¼ lengths in a $50,000 event. This is a step up for Budro Talking, but it appears to be the right call after his form over his last two races.
Ninety One Assault is 7 for 34 in his career, but hasn’t arrived in the winner’s circle since February 29. After winning the $60,000 Dixie Poker Ace Stakes, Ninety One Assault has gone 6th, 2nd, 6th. In his most recent appearance on November 14, Ninety One Assault finished 6th for a $100,000 purse in the Artie Schiller Stakes (Black Type). Prior to that entry, Ninety One Assault placed 2nd behind Doctor Mounty by 1 ¾ lengths for a $100,000 purse. He much prefers 1 1/16 miles where he’s had a lot more success as opposed to a mile. Under these conditions, look for Ninety One Assault to run well here.
