The next big stakes racing day is on December 26 following Christmas Day. Santa Anita Park has the most notable events, with three $300,000 events on the docket.

The $300,000 Runhappy Malibu Stakes (Gr. 1) and $300,000 American Oaks (Gr. 1) are the highlights on Sunday at Santa Anita Park.

There are a total of six stakes races at Santa Anita, six at Fair Grounds, and the same at Laurel Park. No stakes racing on Monday, but an alright card for an early weekday in December.

We’re going to Fair Grounds Race Course for our first look this afternoon. Fair Grounds has nine races worth $262,000 on the card. Head below for our free Fair Grounds Race Course picks on December 20, 2021.

(7) Sir Advent
+600 (6/1)

Post Time: 1:35 p.m. CST
Distance:6 Furlongs

The second race at Fair Grounds is a $17,000 event covering 6 furlongs. Holy Spirit and Aw Shucks should be top class runners in this one.

Holy Spirit is 3 for 16 and has finished 1st, 3rd, 3rd, 3rd in his previous four outings. The gelding was a 5 length winner on June 29 at Louisiana Downs in a solid showing for a $8,500 purse.

Following that effort, Holy Spirit has showed 3rd in three straight outings. In his last attempt, he showed 3rd in a $18,000 assignment on December 3 at Fair Grounds.

Aw Shucks is 4 for 35 and going 3rd, 2nd, 1st in her last three outings. He most recently beat Lenape Drive by 2 lengths in a $15,000 race after placing 2nd behind Crimson Zip by 2 ¼ lengths for a $14,000 prize.

This should go in Aw Shucks’ direction if he wants to run on Monday. I’d give him the upper hand to get into the winner’s circle.

Post Time: 2:05 p.m. CST
Distance: 6 Furlongs

Race 3 is a $15,000 event covering 6 furlongs on the dirt. Go with Kissalot and First Glimpse at the top of your shortlist.

Kissalot has finished 7th, 7th, 6th, 3rd in four career attempts. In his last attempt, Kissalot showed 3rd on November 12 for a $37,000 assignment.

This was after finishing 6th on October 1 in a $50,000 event. The class drop helped put Kissalot back on track.

First Glimpse finished 11th, 6th, 5th in his first three attempts. The young colt is seeing a drop in grade today.

He most recently moved up to 5th on November 6 at Churchill Downs. First Glimpse failed to land a blow, but should find this easier than a $50,000 race against competition in Kentucky.

Prior to that outing, First Glimpse went 6th for a $37,000 race at Keeneland on October 16. All the way down to $15,000 at Fair Grounds, he should have a big chance in this one.

Race 7

(1) Super Fire
+800 (8/1)
(2) My Aim is True
+800 (8/1)
(3) Bernabreezy
+800 (8/1)
(4) Hidden Wonder

(5) Poronui

(6) Gun Slingin
+450 (9/2)
(7) Opportunity Knocks
+3000 (30/1)

Post Time: 4:05 p.m. CST
Distance:1 1/16 Miles

Race 7 is a $45,000 event covering 1 1/16 miles on the dirt. Poronui and Hidden Wonder should have a strong percent in this one.

Poronui is winless in two attempts, finishing 3rd, 2nd in solid attempts on October 10 and October 30.

She showed 3rd in the first race for a $84,000 prize, and then placed 2nd behind Freedom Rose by 8 ½ lengths in the same grade.

This looks like a good spot at $45,000 for Poronui to have a better chance of scoring. Hidden Wonder is going to be tough to beat, though.

Hidden Wonder appeared in one race making a solid debut to place 2nd behind Freedom Rose by 8 ½ lengths for a $84,000 purse. More is expected out of this Brad Cox trainee.

The filly is open to further improvement in this setting at Fair Grounds on Monday.
