Fair Grounds Race Course Selections for December 27, 2021 – Horse Racing Picks

BetOnline has a sizable card for a Monday, which is still a holiday for a lot of people. There are six tracks in the US available for wagering. Santa Anita Park is the most notable racecourse, with Fair Grounds Race Course a second on the list.

Fair Grounds is where the stakes racing is on Monday. It’s not the biggest events. They have five stakes races worth $75,000 each. It’s a Parx day on Tuesday, with Christmas-themed stakes racing.

Parx has the $100,000 Blitzen, Kris Kringle, and Mrs. Claus Stakes in Philadelphia on Tuesday afternoon. For Monday afternoon, I’m looking at Fair Grounds to get the day started.

Fair Grounds Race Course has ten races worth $565,000 on Monday afternoon. Head below for our free Fair Grounds picks on December 27, 2021.

Race 2 is a $46,000 event covering 6 furlongs on the dirt. Steph’s Spirit and Plum Good should have a good go at the top prize.

Steph’s Spirit is a one-time winner through 11 attempts, finishing 1st, 3rd, 2nd, 2nd, 4th in his previous five attempts. She was most recently a winner back on March 21.

Steph’s Spirit beat Box of Pictures by 4 lengths for a $60,000 purse. She most recently finished 4th for a $46,000 purse on December 2.

Plum Good won her debut assignment on September 20 at Louisana Downs. It was an impressive run as a rookie for Plum Good.

She defeated Madison Joy in a blowout by 10 ½ lengths for $19,000. Much too easy. Given her form in that race and workouts, expect a competitive bid from her at $46,000 as well.

In her next and most recent attempt, Com’ On Sweet Luv did a spot better to beat Elle of the Ball by 2 ¾ lengths in a $45,000 race. Com’ On Sweet Luv should be involved in the stretch.

Girl With a Dream is 1st, 8th, 2nd 1st in her previous four attempts. She is coming off a half-length win for a $127,000 purse on November 13 at Churchill Downs.

That was a nice attempt from Girl With a Dream after placing 2nd behind Knowing Glance by 1 ¼ lengths for $86,000. After the $127,000 win, expect Girl With a Dream to do well in a $75,000 assignment.

Post Time: 5:22 p.m. CST
Distance:6 Furlongs

The $75,000 Sugar Bowl Stakes covers 6 furlongs on the dirt. Freelancer and Higher Standard should be difficult to stop in this race.

Freelancer is 1st, 3rd, 4th in three attempts. As a rookie on August 8, Freelancer defeated Gunoe by 2 ¾ lengths for a $51,000 purse.

The colt came back to show 3rd for a $127,000 purse on October 1 at Churchill Downs. That was an acceptable attempt at that level.

He made his stakes debut on October 30 and faltered to 4th in the $150,000 Bowman Mill Stakes on October 30 at Keeneland. It’s hard to ignore Freelancer at $75,000 on Monday.

Higher Standard has finished 1st, 2nd in two career races. As a first-time runner, Higher Standard beat Stirdat pot by 5 ¾ lengths for $120,000.

He was unable to follow up but still looked in good form in the $150,000 Advent Stakes, placing 2nd behind Kavod by a length. It was nevertheless an impressive effort.

Higher Standard should be the toughest to beat in the final event at Fair Grounds on Monday.
