Fair Grounds Selections for February 16, 2021 – Horse Racing Picks

We’re back on the track on Tuesday at BetOnline. The racebook at BetOnline has three racecourses open for racing on Tuesday. We were spoiled on Monday with a big card because of the holiday. Things are geared down a notch, but there is still an opening to make some cash on the ponies. BetOnline is offering action at Turf Paradise, Parx, and Fair Grounds Race Course. Fair Grounds sticks out as the biggest of the three. The horsemen at Fair Grounds have to be fairly happy about racing on a Tuesday without much competition for betting dollars. As far as stakes racing is concerned, there is one at Fair Grounds with the running of the $75,000 Mardi Gras Stakes.

The $20,000,000 Saudi Cup is quickly approaching, and we are now less than a week away from the richest horse racing in the world. There is nothing of the sort today, with the biggest card at Fair Grounds worth a total of $439,000. Not bad for a weekday card on a Tuesday. Head below for our free Fair Grounds Race Course picks for February 16, 2021.

Post Time: 2:56 p.m. CST
Distance:6 Furlongs
Purse:$56,000

Our first selection at Fair Grounds on Tuesday is a 6-furlong event on the dirt for a $56,000 purse. Makeafjoyfulnoise and Save should have something to give in the stretch in Race 5. Makeajoyfulnoise should have a chance from the No. 1 post position. She is coming along nicely in her career, finishing 6th, 4th, 1st in her previous three starts.

After finishing 6th and 4th, Makeajoyfulnoise came on strong in her most recent performance to beat Wrapper Rule by 1 ¼ lengths in a $24,000 event. She goes back up in class following that promising effort on January 22. Makeafjoyfulnoise is coming off a lengthy 7-furlong workout on February 6. She was clocked at 1:34.00. The $65,000 Makeajoyfulnoise should be a close runner if she brings the same form as her last outing.

Save is a one-time starter and winner. She beat Bold Confection by 1 ½ lengths for a relatively easy win. Save took a slight lead at the top of the stretch, and cleared late after the rest of the field weakened. Save has been in consistent form at 4 furlongs. She completed workouts with times of 49.20 seconds in three of them. At 3/1 on the morning-line, Save has to be worth a look in this $56,000 event in her current form.

Post Time: 3:54 p.m. CST
Distance:6 Furlongs
Purse:$56,000

We have another 6-furlong $56,000 event at Fair Grounds on Tuesday afternoon. Eight horses are scheduled to take to the gate for this assignment. Lady of Luxury and Sixth Street have to be taken seriously in this one. Lady of Luxury is the morning-line favorite on the inside rail at 9/5. She is 5 for 16 in her career and could go again for a win.

In her previous five entries, Lady of Luxury has finished 1st, 6th, 4th, 1st, 4th. In her most recent win, she defeated Nun of Ours by 6 ½ lengths in a $22,000 assignment two races ago. Struggling to follow up, Lady of Luxury finished 4th in her most recent outing on January 3 in a $52,000 race. With the inside rail out of the gate this time, expect Lady of Luxury to use it to her advantage well.

Sixth Street should give her a fight from the outside. This is a $525,000 filly expected to have success throughout her career. So far so okay for Sixth Street. Sixth Street has finished 2nd, 5th, 1st in her career. In her first outing as a rookie, she placed 2nd behind Remain Anonymous by 3 ⅓ lengths in a $90,000 event.

No dice for 5th in her next race, but came back strong recently. Sixth Street is coming off a win by a half length over April in Paris for a $50,000 prize. She had a strong bid going into the stretch and took over late. A lot of value pointing in her direction in this event.

Post Time: 4:23 p.m. CST
Distance:5 ½ Furlongs
Purse:$75,000

The feature at Fair Grounds is the running of the $75,000 Mardi Gras Stakes on the turf. This is a grass race with ten horses expected to participate. Into Mystic and Elle Z should get into it from the inside. Elle Z is 4 for 8 in her career and in fine form recently. She has gone 1st, 1st, 2nd in her previous three entries.

Not a bad run for Elle Z, with a couple of wins in a $73,000 allowance race. Elle Z followed up for a win in the $75,000 Pan Zareta Stakes over Into Mystic by a length. That was not expected, as Elle Z was a sizable underdog in the race.

She failed to pull off the hat-trick, though, as Elle Z came a length away from Into Mystic in a rematch in the $75,000 Nelson J. Menard Memorial Stakes. They will meet yet again on Tuesday. Into Mystic has experience in big races, including Grade 1 and Grade 2 events.

She has consistently performed well in them, finishing 1st, 3rd, 2nd, 12th, 2nd, 1st in her last five outings, all stakes races. Into Mystic was a $650,000 purchase and certainly expected to win $75,000 stakes races. She looked good in her last two workouts, with times of 48.80 and 49 seconds at 4 furlongs. Expect her to follow up with another win Tuesday over Elle Z.
