Finger Lakes Racetrack Selections for May 3, 2021 – Horse Racing Picks

Finger Lakes Racetrack Selections for May 3, 2021 – Horse Racing Picks

Monday is bigger than usual now that we’re getting into several spring meets around the country. As the weather continues to heat up, there are a lot more options for wagering on the racetrack. During the winter, there’s a few racecourses available for betting at BetOnline early in the week. However, we’re getting treated to at least seven tracks on Monday. None of the big players are involved, but it’s still a decent racecard for an early weekday schedule.

The $6,000,000 Breeders’ Cup Classic in November is the biggest race to look forward to in November now with the Kentucky Derby in the books. It’s worth double the Kentucky Derby. We still have the Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes to get to, but if there isn’t a Triple Crown on the line come the third leg, the Belmont Stakes is just like any other big $1,000,000 Grade 1 stakes race.

We are at Thistledown and Finger Lakes Racetrack on Monday afternoon. For our Thistledown picks on Monday afternoon, access our Thistledown page for three more horse racing picks. Head below for our free Finger Lakes Racetrack picks for May 3, 2021.

Race 1

(1) Storm Afleet
+500 (5/1)
(2) Boston Billy
+600 (6/1)
(3) Mariner Qui
+250 (5/2)
(4) Artful Lad
+800 (8/1)
(5) Who Is Jarett
-125 (4/5)

Post Time: 1:10 p.m. EST
Distance:4 ½ Furlongs
Purse:$12,300

In our first selection at Finger Lakes, we will handicap Race 1, a 4 ¼ furlong event on the dirt for a $12,300 purse. Mariner Qui and Who Is Jarett should be watched closely in this event. Mariner Qui is looking for better results after going 6th, 7th, 10th, 10th, 9th to open his career. Not good on paper at all, though Mariner Qui was running at Aqueduct and Belmont.

There is no doubt that Finger Lakes Racetrack is going to provide Mariner Qui with a better chance of winning. Mariner Qui finished 9th in his most recent performance on January 2. He finished 9th for a $35,000 purse in his most recent trip on January 2. Mariner Qui finished 10th in back-to-back performances before that effort. Against this field on Monday, we have to believe that he’s going to put something much better together.

Who Is Jarett is winless in eight attempts, with finishes of 3rd, 6th, 2nd, 3rd in his previous four races. Who Is Jarett placed 2nd behind Battle Rags on January 22 by a neck, and then most recently showed 3rd on February 14 in a $12,200 event. That was disappointing, but Who Is Jarret has been displaying encouraging signs in morning workouts. He was clocked at 48 and 49.10 seconds at 4 furlongs recently. I like his chances in Race 1.

The Bet
(5) WHO IS JARETT

Race 3

(1) Schwarbertown
+250 (5/2)
(2) San Juan Diego
+160 (8/5)
(3) U Rock It
+500 (5/1)
(4) Son of Darkness
+400 (4/1)
(5) Dr. Lloyd
+1000 (10/1)
(6) Roll With My Posse
+600 (6/1)

Post Time: 2:04 p.m. EST
Distance:4 ½ Furlongs
Purse:$21,900

Race 3 is another 4 ½ furlong race at Finger Lakes. The stakes are a bit higher in this one, as a purse of $21,900 is expected to be completed in this one. San Juan Diego and Schwarbertown should run a solid race with a chance of striking for a win on Monday afternoon.

San Juan Diego is 4 for 34 in his career, and hasn’t won since August 19. That performance was 12 outings back, as San Juan Diego beat Possetizzly by 3 ¾ lengths for a $21,650 purse. However, it hasn’t been smooth sailing since then. San Juan Diego has finished outside of the top-3 in six straight contests.

In his most recent showing, San Juan finished 5th for a $28,000 purse. He is wisely moving down in class to a $21,900 event on Monday. It should help, but Schwarbertown should provide plenty of resistance. Schwarbertown is a four-time winner in 23 assignments. He has been in good form as of late, going 3rd, 3rd, 1st, 2nd in his previous four performances.

Schwarbertown was a winner on March 3 in a $16,400 event by a head over For the Moment. In his next and most recent showing, Schwarbertown placed 2nd behind Hashtag Winning by 2 ¾ lengths for another $16,400 event. This is up in class, but I don’t see it as being much tougher. I would go for a small upset with Schwarbertown beating San Juan Diego.

The Bet
(1) SCHWARBERTOWN

Race 6

(1) Papi’s Baby Girl
+200 (2/1)
(2) Trivia
+1200 (12/1)
(3) Aurannian
+600 (6/1)
(4) Competition Queen
+300 (3/1)
(5) Zia Adelia
+1500 (15/1)
(6) One Ticked Lady
+800 (8/1)
(7) Catskill Rivers
+800 (8/1)
(8) Empire Trolley
+1200 (12/1)
(9) Flirtacious Kiss
+400 (4/1)

Post Time: 3:25 p.m. EST
Distance:4 ½ Furlongs
Purse:$29,700

The feature race at Finger Lakes is a 4 ¼ event for a $29,700 purse. This is likely a race that comes down to Flirtacious Kiss and Papi’s Baby Girl. Flirtacious Kiss is going to need a bold bid from the outside, but might have it in her. She has yet to show 3rd, with 4th on January 23 her best effort.

However, she’s raced at Aqueduct Racetrack for seven races and Belmont Park in one. A transfer to Finger Lakes should do her a world of good on Monday. In her most recent appearance, Flirtacious Kiss finished 5th in a $32,000 event. She will move down slightly and find easier competition at Finger Lakes than she did at Aqueduct.

Papi’s Baby Girl is transferring to Finger Lakes from Aqueduct as well. The New Yorkers are looking for easier pastures in Farmington. Papi’s Baby Girl has finished 6th and 4th in her career. She showed improvement in her most recent outing to finish 4th in a $70,000 event. Flirtacious Kiss has finished 4th only once in eight races, which was a $35,000 assignment in January. I will side with the No. 1 horse to pull away on the rail.

(1) PAPI’S BABY GIRL
