With the Kentucky Derby in the books last weekend, we’re still awaiting whether Derby favorite Tiz the Law is participating in the Preakness Stakes. Tiz the Law did not live up to expectations and faltered against Bob Baffert’s Authentic. A win at the Kentucky Derby would have set up a Triple Crown opportunity after Tiz the Law won the first leg of the Triple Crown in the Belmont Stakes. However, Baffert came through with the upset. Now, we’re still waiting for if there will be a rematch or not. It would be nice to see Authentic and Tiz the Law on the same track again, but trainer Barclay Tagg has been quiet.

Distance:5 ½ Furlongs
Race 4 will be our first selection at Finger Lakes Racetrack on Tuesday afternoon. It will cover 5 ½ furlongs for a $10,700 purse. That’s on the low side of available money at Finger Lakes on Tuesday. Care About This and Freud’s Secret should be involved in the stretch.
Care About This showcased signs of improvement, but it is still looking for her first win after 27 attempts. She is winless in her career, but should be able to reach the winner’s circle before retirement. That day could be today.
After finishing 4th, 6th, 8th, Care About This got into the top-3 to show on August 24 in a $10,700 race. She was able to beat eight horses in that race for a small win. Care About This was the second biggest underdog in the race, but outpaced those expectations.
This isn’t much of a talented field, so expect Care About This to be involved near the front again on Tuesday. She might have to catch a break to find the winner’s circle, but the chance is going to be there.
It will likely take Freud’s Secret stumbling at some point in this race for Care About This to have a good look at a win. On paper Freud’s Secret is the most talented horse in this event. Freud’s Secret is winless in six attempts, but has been in good form since July. She has finished 3rd, 3rd, 2nd in her previous three performances.
The best run of her career was most recently on September 2. Freud’s Secret placed 2nd to lose by a half length versus heavy favorite Central Perk. She had a 14 ¼ advantage on the rest of the field, so it was a duel between Freud’s Secret and Central Perk for the win. In one of the easiest assignments of her career, look for Freud’s Secret to clear the field in the stretch.

Race 5 is worth $20,400 for 6 furlongs on Tuesday afternoon. Tied Up and Victorias Fire should put a charge into this race, with a possible duel in the stretch between those two. Victorias Fire is the morning-line favorite at 2/1 from the No. 1 post position. She is 15 for 38 in her career with finishes of 1st, 2nd, 1st in her last three outings. That’s from November to August 5, so she hasn’t been worked much.
Prior to that three-race stretch, Victorias Fire went 9th, 9th, 6th so it was a nice response for her. In her most recent entries, Victorias Fire placed 2nd in a $20,400 event in July, and then responded with a win in August by 4 ½ lengths in the same class. Victorias Fire is coming off a strong workout on September 9 with a time of 49.30 seconds at 4 furlongs. She will sign up for another winnable race on Tuesday afternoon.
Tied Up is 13 for 24 in her career and in search of a hat-trick on Tuesday. She is on an epic run with 8 wins in 9 races. The only event she lost was on July 27. Tied Up showed 3rd in that $15,300 race. She got right back on the winning path with a 3 ½ length win in a $32,000 race on August 12, and then another win at Saratoga by 2 ¼ lengths over Bustin to Please for a $43,000 score. Tied Up is on fire right now and should be able to extinguish the favorite on Tuesday afternoon in Race 5.

Race 7 provides us with 6 furlongs of racing for a $21,100 purse at Finger Lakes Racetrack. It’s our final horse racing selection of the day. If you’re looking for more picks on Tuesday, you can find our Thistledown selections here as well.
Sergeant Drive and Lady’s Golden Guy should get into it in the stretch. Sargeant Drive is 2 for 25 in his career and is coming off a solid performance on September 1. He placed 2nd to finish in the top-2 for the first time since December 1, 2019.
Sargeant Drive went 6th, 5th, 4th, 4th before placing 2nd. His last win in December at Aqueduct. He notched that win by 6 ¼ lengths over Spectator Sport for a $38,000 purse. In his most recent performance, Sargaent Drive lost by 4 ½ lengths behind Lady’s Golden Guy. Lady’s Golden Guy was sharp and drew off at the stretch of the stretch with a 4 ½ length advantage over the field.
Lady’s Golden Guy is 2 for 6 in his young career. In 5 out of 6 races, Lady’s Golden Guy finished in the top-3. In 4 of 6 outings, Lady’s Golden Guy has finished in the top-2. In his latest race, like we discussed above, Lady’s Golden Guy edged out the field for the win.
If Lady’s Golden Guy didn’t get DQ’d on August 4, then it would have been 5 of 6 career races with at least placing 2nd. He is going to have to work for this win, but if Lady’s Golden Guy wants to go to the winner’s circle, he likely has the upper hand in Race 7 at Finger Lakes.
