Fonner Park Picks – Horse Racing Selections April 13, 2020

Fonner Park will be back for another week of racing on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. With the bigger tracks typically taking the spotlight over the weekend, Fonner Park gets more attention throughout the work week. That is a strategy that works out well for the smaller Fonner Park. However, given the times we are living in, it’s within reason that they could race on the weekend and still get attention. With Sam Houston Park, Aqueduct, Santa Anita Park, and Golden Gate Fields all dark because of Covid-19, it’d make sense for Fonner Park to still attract simulcast dollars on the weekend. In any event, they only have Will Rogers Downs to compete with on Monday and Tuesday.

Fonner Park executed a trial period for a couple of weeks to investigate whether racing was worth it from a dollars and cents perspective. If it wasn’t a success we wouldn’t be providing you with Fonner Park picks. That just about sums up how well that went. Fonner Park features nine races on Monday, with post time in Race 1 scheduled for 4:00 CST for some early evening racing in Nebraska. If you are looking for a good horse racing promotion, BetOnline has you covered with a 7% cash rebate on all your losses. They are also providing a 20% boost to your bankroll. Not a bad deal. Post Time: 4:00 CST
Distance: 6 Furlongs

The action will begin at Fonner Park on Monday at 4:00 CST. That is 5:00 EST. Race 1 will feature a small purse of $6,400. Eight horses will be in the field, with English Toffee, Eyes on Behold, and Sweet as Caro fairly large underdogs going into this one. Sweet as Caro and English Toffee are both +1000 or above in the morning lines at BetOnline.

English Toffee has been regressing since his first start, which wasn’t that good to begin with. She finished 6th in her career opener on May 23, 2019, and then didn’t respond at all in 8th on June 27, 2019 and 10th on March 24. The long layoff did not help her. Sweet as Caro has made only one appearance thus far in her career, with a finish of 8th on March 30.

Eyes on Behold has smaller odds in the morning lines, though should probably be right there with +1000 odds. She just made her debut on March 30 and appears to need more work. Eyes on Behold moved up from 8th at the ½ pole to 5th at the wire. Nice push at the end by Eyes on Behold, but likely isn’t going to have enough of a push in this race either. If you want to go with a longshot, Ticker at +600 might be a decent choice.

Ticker is still looking for her first win, though has shown improvements after a slow start in the first three races of her career. She has shown in two of her last three races, and just came up short on March 13 at Fonner Park. Ticker was 1st in the homestretch, but couldn’t hold on and ultimately lost the lead to Chickes Done. She might have an extra gear in her on Monday.

The most likely scenario is a battle playing out between Witts Data Link and Itybityquikasakity. Witts Data Link hasn’t been in great form recently, having finished 4th in back-to-back starts on March 14 and April 6. Disappointing to say the last as she failed to build on a 2nd place effort on February 28. In 15 career outings, Witts Data Link has placed twice and shown three times.

Itybityquikasakity, what a name by the way, is coming off a couple of promising races. She was 2nd in her most recent race on March 30. It’s her best performance, and has been improving since four sloppy races to begin her career. 3rd on March 13 and 2nd on March 30 is the best starts she has had. I think there’s better value to be had on the No. 7 horse than Witts Data Link in Race 1.

+1000 (10/1)
(4) Hold Fast Kat
+800 (8/1)
(5) Chamber Doors
+500 (5/1)
(6) Wild Blue Kiss
+1000 (10/1)
(7) Trepi’s Trpl Crown
+300 (3/1)
(8) Ubetcha Ima Bumper
+400 (4/1)

Post Time: 5:21 CST
Distance:6 Furlongs

Eight horses are signed up to compete in Race 4 on Monday evening at Fonner Park. This event will offer a purse of $8,800. Jamaican Me Money, which is one of the better race horse names you’re going to find out there, isn’t expected to make too many people money in Race 4. If she does hit, though, it’s going to be a big payday.

Jamaican Me Money could be over +2000 or close to +3000 by the time post time arrived at some racebooks. She has two wins on his resume, so that’s 2 wins in 20 races. Not the greatest, but at least he’s been to the winner’s circle. She was out of sync in his last outing, though, as Jamaican Me Money finished 11th on December 15, 2019.

Mine for a Song with 2 wins in 16 races is another longshot in Race 4. And just like Jamaican Me Money, Mine for a Song is coming off a dreadful performance. Hers was just more recently, as Mine for a Song finished dead last on March 23 from 5 furlongs. However, she did have a win on November 9, 2019 and August 16, 2019, which is two of her previous five races.

That’s good, but not as good as Wild Blue Kiss, who has won two out of her previous three events. She finished 1st on September 1, 2019 and February 29, but was less effective after a recent race on March 24. Wild Blue Kiss faltered to 8th against better competition in the Orphan Kist Stakes. He will face increased pressure against a pretty decent field on Monday at Fonner Park. If it was a weak field, this would have been a nice bounce back opportunity for him.

Race 4 is expected to be a close contest between Possibly in Love and Trepi’s Trpl Crown. Possibly in Love is likely going to be a major contender throughout this competition. She has made just three appearances and has been tremendous in all of them. Starting on February 22, Possibly in Love got out to a good start in her career, placing 2nd by a half length behind Lovesaflyin. She was strong and protected 2nd throughout the race.

Possibly in Love was able to outdo herself in the next event, as she won on March 8 by 6 ½ lengths over G G Holliday, and then did the same on April 1 with a win by 1 length over Shade of Justice. Trepi’s Trpl Crown is coming off a win on April 1 as well, though that’s the only race she has shown in her past three events. Ubetcha Ima Bumper and Jamaican Me Money both beat her on February 29. Chamber Doors and Wild Blue Kiss finished ahead of her on September 1, 2019. Let’s back Possibly in Love and her hat-trick bid on Monday in Race 4.
