Golden Gate Fields Selections for April 11, 2021 – Horse Racing Picks

Golden Gate Fields Selections for April 11, 2021 – Horse Racing Picks

We are at two west coast tracks on Sunday afternoon at Santa Anita Park and Golden Gate Fields. It was what happened at Oaklawn Park yesterday that was the biggest headliner. Bob Baffert’s Concert Tour failed to run up to expectations and faltered in the stretch, giving way to an upset with Super Stock rallying to win the Kentucky Derby. Super Stock was a 12-1 longshot, but all that mattered is he was the best horse on Saturday. I’m not counting Concert Tour out of the Kentucky Derby, so don’t throw away your future tickets if you have him. We move to Sunday where there isn’t much in the way of big stakes racing.

There are three picks at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia at TheSportsGeek, and we’re going to have three more in Berkeley at Golden Gate Fields. Golden Gate is expecting to run nine events on Sunday. A total of nine races are expected at Golden Gate on Sunday, with $166,800 in prize money available this afternoon. Head below for our free Golden Gate Fields picks for April 11, 2021.

Distance:5 ½ Furlongs

We will get started with Race 2 on Sunday afternoon at Golden Gate Fields. A small field of five are expected to travel 5 ½ furlongs on the synthetic track for a $10,400 purse. Royal Alexis and Clochard Street should be involved in the stretch run. Royal Alexis is a one-time winner through 15 races, with a win to open 2021 on January 23.

In her first top-3 finish since 2019, Royal Alexis beat Watch the Fed by 2 lengths for a $11,000 score. He was clear at the top of the stretch by 4 lengths and carried on to win in an upset over the favorite. Watch the Fed jumped a shadow in that race and never recovered, and was even disqualified after interfering because of the incident. Who knows what happens if Watch the Fed runs a clean race.

Clochard Street is a one-timer as well, with a win on February 6 in a $10,000 event over Sweet Topper by a length. He’s been running close since the win, beating 3rd, 3rd, 2nd, 4th, 2nd in his previous five entries. In his latest attempt on March 30, Clochard Street placed 2nd behind Bee Einstein by 5 ½ lengths in a $10,400 assignment. In what should be an easier field, expect a Clochard Street win.

Post Time: 4:04 p.m. PST
Distance:1 Mile

In Race 6 we have seven horses running a mile for a $20,000 purse. Seven horses are running, with Colavito and Copper Halo in a good spot for a win on Sunday. Colavito is 2 for 7 in his career and coming off back-to-back wins on January 15 and February 26.

He beat Darcee’s Lovi Dovi by 1 length in a $11,000 event, and then returned on February 26 for another standout performance in a $17,000 event. Colavito beat Omph by ¾ lengths in that race. He moves up to a $20,000 race. More is going to be required from Colavito on Sunday, but you have to like the direction that he’s going in.

Copper Halo is 2 for 11 in his career and is coming off a bold performance on March 21. He has finished in the top-3 in eight of his previous ten entries, so has been a consistent runner. In his most recent attempt, Copper Halo beat Phantom Drop by 3 ½ lengths in a $19,000 assignment. That was a productive effort and should put Copper Halo ahead in this race on Sunday as well.

Our Bet

(2) Mystic Traveler

(7) J T’s Creditcard
+600 (6/1)
(8) Bold Voyager
+1200 (12/1)
(9) Minehunter
+250 (5/2)

Post Time: 5:40 p.m. PST
Distance:5 ½ Furlongs

In our final selection at Golden Gate we’ll turn to Race 9. Minehunter and Exceed Speed Limit should have a big say in the stretch in this event. Minehunter is winless in three events, but has a good chance of striking on Sunday afternoon. He’s finished 5th, 10th, 4th in three races. In his most recent outing, Minehunter finished 4th in a $39,000 event on March 21.

Minehunter was running well near the front before dropping back around the final push in the last furlong. He was a slight favorite to win that race. It was wide open, with Minehunter closing as the favorite. Note that Minehunter is dropping a half furlong from a 6-furlong to a 5 ½ furlong race on Sunday. That should help get him a better chance to win this race.

Exceed Speed Limit has finished 3rd and 2nd in two races in his career. As a first-time runner, he showed 3rd in a $39,000 event on February 28. Improvement was made on March 21 in another $39,000 event. Exceed Speed Limit finished 1 ¼ lengths behind this time, placing 2nd ahead of Tribal Nation and Minehunter. Minehunter was 1 ¾ lengths behind Exceed Speed Limit at the wire. Look for another winning run from Exceed Speed Limit with Minehunter trailing on Sunday afternoon.
