Golden Gate Fields Selections for April 4, 2021 – Horse Racing Picks

Golden Gate Fields Selections for April 4, 2021 – Horse Racing Picks

We have a smaller card of racing for Easter Sunday after a big day of racing on Saturday. The Wood Memorial at Aqueduct Racetrack produced a monster upset, as 72-1 Bourbonic cashed in for a win in a heated battle at the wire. Bourbonic gets 100 points and an automatic berth to the Kentucky Derby. That was not how things were expected to play out at Aqueduct. However, over at Keeneland, for the biggest race of the day, Essential Quality did what he was set out to do and edged out Highly Motivated. Many believed it was going to be an easy win, but Highly Motivated is a talented horse, who will be going to the Kentucky Derby as well.

BetOnline has five racecourses operating on Sunday. It’s usually bigger for a Sunday, but Easter has some tracks closed for the holiday. Gulfstream Park, who doesn’t take a break for anything, including a pandemic, is racing this afternoon in Hallandale Beach. We have three picks from Gulfstream Park on Easter. Later in the afternoon, Golden Gate Fields in Berkeley has a card on the west coast. Golden Gate has nine races expected on the Easter Sunday card. Head below for our free Golden Gate Fields picks for April 4, 2021.

Post Time: 3:05 p.m. PST
Distance:6 Furlongs

Race 4 is our first selection at Golden Gate Fields on Sunday afternoon. Seven horses are expected to participate in this 6-furlong event. Circulodeganadoras and Starza should have a good run for the top prize in this one. Circulodeganadors has three wins in 21 attempts. She was a winner six races ago on September 27.

In that attempt, Circulodeganadors defeated Smokinhotredhead by 1 ¼ lengths for a $10,000 purse. Since then, she’s gone 5th, 3rd, 3rd, 5th, 2nd. In her most recent outing, it was a 3 ¾ length loss behind E Z Star Maker in a $10,000 event. Expect her to be close in the stretch, but more will be needed to get to the wire first. Starza is a two-time winner through 26 races.

It doesn’t sound too great, but Starza has been competing in a higher class for the vast majority of her career. She’s finished 4th, 4th, 5th, 4th, 4th in her last five attempts after winning on October 9. Starza edged out Nice and True by ¾ lengths in a $12,000 event. After finishing 4th on March 21 in a $11,500 event, Starza falls to a $10,000 race Sunday. Failing to beat this field would be highly disappointing. She should be able to come through in the stretch, though.

(2) Eddie’s Sister
+140 (7/5)
(3) Say It With Roses
+600 (6/1)
(4) Blue Breeze
+1200 (12/1)
(5) La Gata Elegante
+200 (2/1)
(6) Foggy Bottom
+400 (4/1)

Post Time: 3:38 p.m. PST
Distance:1 Mile

In Race 5 at Golden Gate, we have a mile of racing for a $12,000 purse. We could have a duel between La Gata Elegante and Eddie’s Sister in the stretch. It’s not going to be nearly as exciting or fast as the Blue Grass duel on Saturday, but a potential duel nonetheless. La Gata Elegante has a win in ten performances in her career.

She had a win on October 3 in a $30,000 assignment. That was a big win for La Gata Elegante by 1 length as an underdog. However, it’s the only race that she’s finished in the top-3 in. After winning that race, she finished DNF, 6th, and 9th in her next three outings. La Gata Elegante is wisely dropping in class today, so that should help.

La Gata Elegante most recently finished 9th in a $19,000 event. There wasn’t much good to take from that performance, but a class drop to $12,000 should put her in the mix in the stretch in this event. She will have to contend with Eddie’s Sister, who should provide her with a big challenge. Eddie’s Sister is a one-time winner through eight performances.

Eddie’s Sister beat Lemon Drop Tini by 1 ½ lengths for a $30,000 purse on November 6. She’s gone 5th, 8th, 3rd since then. In her most recent outing, Eddie’s Sister showed 3rd for a $12,000 purse on February 20. It was disappointing given that Eddie’s Sister was the favorite, but she has a good chance of responding after slipping late in the stretch. I’m going to give Eddie’s Sister the benefit of the doubt after starting from the outside in that race. Look for her to have enough in the tank this time around.

Race 8

(1) Riotously
+400 (4/1)
(2) Mark Whats Mine
+800 (8/1)
(3) Maggie’s Magic
+250 (5/2)
(4) Good Time Dolly
+450 (9/2)
(5) Garden in the Sky
+1500 (15/1)
(6) Oscar Nod
+450 (9/2)
(7) Wildly Dramatic
+300 (3/1)

Post Time: 5:15 p.m. PST
Distance:6 Furlongs

We will close the day out on the synthetic track at Golden Gate Fields. Wildly Dramatic and Maggie’s Magic appear like potential winners in Race 8. Wildly Dramatic has finished 2nd, 1st, 2nd in her three-race career for a nice start.

She opened with her first race on January 29, placing 2nd behind Take Her Temp by 1 ¼ lengths for a $10,500 purse. It was a decent first-time effort for the young filly. She responded with a winning run on February 12 over Wahasha by 3 lengths in a $11,190 event.

In her most recent performance, Wildly Dramatic dropped back to place 2nd. Wildly Dramatic was downed by ¾ lengths in a $17,000 event against Proof of Jazz. She has looked sharp in workouts, too, completing 4 furlongs in 49, 49.40, and 49 seconds. It’s hard to discount her on Sunday.

Maggie’s Magic has gone 4th, 1st, 6th, 1st in her career. In her two wins, she won by ¾ lengths for a $36,000 purse on July 18, and most recently a half length win for a $19,000 purse on January 17. If Maggie’s Magic cares to run this afternoon, this should be a winnable assignment at the $17,000 level.
