Golden Gate Fields Selections for March 28, 2021 – Horse Racing Picks

TheSportsGeek has an east coast and west coast racetrack covered on Sunday afternoon. We begin the day at Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens, and then head to Golden Gate Fields in Berkeley later in the afternoon. Saturday was Derby Day at Gulfstream Park, as Known Agenda picked up 100 points in an impressive performance.

Greatest Honour was the one to beat, and just had a terrible trip for 3rd. He still records 20 points on the Road to the Kentucky Derby, but isn’t going to generate much support for the Kentucky Derby with that performance. Known Agenda looked good on Saturday, but is going to be dealing with tougher competition in May. It should be a really entertaining Kentucky Derby this year.

Golden Gate Fields has nine races expected to be run on Sunday. A total of $169,500 in prize money is available across these events. If you want picks at Aqueduct, then head over to our Aqueduct Racetrack page. Head below for our free Golden Gate Fields picks for March 28, 2021.

Distance:6 Furlongs

Race 2 gets us going at Golden Gate Fields, with a 6-furlong event for a $11,000 purse. Pure Perfection and California Comet are on my shortlist, with Pure Perfection a decent value play. She is 7 for 37 in her career, and has been in consistent form as of late.

Along with finishing at least top-3 in five of her previous six performances, Pure Perfection won two of those races. In her most recent win, the mare was a winner by a nose two races ago in a $10,000 assignment on January 31. She failed to follow up on March 5, placing 2nd behind Amber Louise by 1 ¼ lengths in a $11,000 assignment.

Pure Perfection was well off the mark in a workout on March 21 with a time of 1:07.80 in an ugly performance at 5 furlongs. She is going to have to be more interested in running today if she wants to get to the winner’s circle. California Comet completed 5 furlongs in 1:03.80 on March 19 and 1:02.80 on March 6.

California Comet is 3 for 12 in her career, and in good form recently going 1st, 1st, 5th, 2nd in her previous four attempts. She beat Dreaming About You by 2 lengths in a $11,500 event on October 16. That was an impressive effort. In her most recent outing, California Comet came a half length behind Jenpirestrikesback in a $11,500 race. Another effort like that should be enough.

Race 6

(1) Rolinga
+450 (9/2)
(2) Meet Miss Kitty
+1500 (15/1)
(3) Vronilla Parfait
+400 (4/1)
(4) Go Smiley Go
+500 (5/1)
(5) Crown Kitten
+350 (7/2)
(6) Queen Helene
+140 (7/5)

Post Time: 4:03 p.m. PST
Distance:6 Furlongs

In the sixth race at Golden Gate Fields, we have six runners participating for a $19,000 purse. Crown Kitten and Queen Helene should have a strong stance in the stretch in this outing. Crown Kitten has finished top-2 in four straight performances. She’s gone 1st, 2nd, 1st, 2nd in her previous four performances.

In her last win, Crown Kitten defeated Lady Chrome by 1 ½ lengths in a $17,000 event on February 19. She most recently placed 2nd on March 5 in a $19,000 event. Queen Helene had the edge in that race by 1 ¼ lengths. Queen Helene is 4 for 10 in her career with some quality starts recently.

She was a winner on March 19 over Allish’s Buttercup by 2 lengths in a $19,000 event, followed up to place 2nd, and then came back to beat Crown Kitten. In the race that Queen Helene placed 2nd in, she was 1 ¼ lengths behind Marilyn’s Smile. In a rematch against Crown Kitten, expect Queen Helene to be ahead at the wire again. She is in the form of her career at the moment, and shouldn’t have too many problems at 6 furlongs.

Our Bet

Race 8

(1) Persuasive Lips
+250 (5/2)
(2) Spun Away
+1200 (12/1)
(3) Grinningeartoear
+200 (2/1)
(4) Dee Gee
+800 (8/1)
(5) Awesome Amanda
+300 (3/1)
(6) Smokin Hot Bobbie
+350 (7/2)

Post Time: 5:03 p.m. PST
Distance:6 Furlongs

We will wrap up the day at Golden Gate Fields with a $18,000 event covering 6 furlongs. Grinningeartoear and Persuasive Lips should be in good form to set up a potential duel in the stretch. Grinningeartoear is a two-time winner, with her most recent win on January 12 in a $57,000 event over Square Peggy by 1 ¼ lengths for a $57,000 purse.

That was quite the effort from Grinningeartoear, but struggled to get into the winner’s circle in her next three performances. Grinningeartoear finished 6th, 6th, 3rd in her previous three entries. In her most recent, she showed 3rd in a $57,000 event on September 26. That was a nice pick me up race, and gives Grinningeartoear some confidence going into Sunday.

Persuasive Lips is a four-time winner in 12 entries. She’s gone 1st, 2nd, 1st, 1st in her last four outings. Persuasive Lips will be looking for a hat-trick after winning by 1 ¼ lengths and ¾ lengths in this class. I’d like to back Grinningeartoear on a class drop, but after a layoff, she might need time to shake off the rust. I think you’ll be able to find better value on Persuasive Lips for a win bet.
