The Haskell Stakes is in the books and we have a winner. Authentic held off Ny Traffic at the wire to win the $1,000,000 event by a nose. What a bold bid it was by Ny Traffic in the stretch. It was a heck of an effort to just about erase a comfortable lead for Authentic. Authentic looked disinterested late and he nearly got burnt for it. That will have to be cleaned up before the Kentucky Derby.
Authentic has a shot at it, but he would have gotten passed there against a horse of Tiz the Law’s caliber. We got the win on Authentic, though might have lost a few years on our life becaose of the final seconds of the race. We’re after a multi-bet win Sunday at Gulfstream Park on a Pick 3 ticket. Head below for our free Gulfstream Park Daily Double and Pick 3 selections for July 19, 2020. Feel free to use either combination or both Race 1-2 and Race 2-3 for your Daily Double.

Race 1 is the start of our Pick 3 card on Sunday at Gulfstream Park. Semper Fi and Irish Paul should get into a good race in this one. Semper Fi has finished in the top-3 in 3 of 4 races in his career. The young colt has been in the top-3 in each of his previous two outings. Semper Fi finished 3rd on June 12, a spot behind Irish Paul for 2nd. Irish Paul got the edge by ¾ lengths over Semper Fi over 6 furlongs.
Semper Fi followed up for a stronger run on July 1 to place for a $29,000 purse. He continued to get stronger in that race and went from 4th at the ½ pole to place. This is one of the easiest races of Semper Fi’s career. Other than Irish Paul, he shouldn’t have much competition. Irish Paul beat Semper Fi by ¾ lengths in their last meeting, but the roles could be reversed on Sunday. If Semper Fi didn’t have to deal with Irish Paul in this race, I think the pick would by clear here.
Irish Paul hasn’t raced since beating Semper Fi to place in that race. Leading up to that race, Irish Paul struggled for 8th on March 13 at Fair Grounds in a $35,000 event. He followed up for 6th in a $45,000 event on May 25. After dropping a class to $25,000, Irish Paul placed 2nd and could do one better today. He has been blazing fast and workouts since June. He has posted times of 46.93, 48.64, and 48.67 seconds over 4 furlongs. That’s pretty convincing. I like Irish Paul to edge out Semper Fi for the win.

We move over to the turf for Race 2 at Gulfstream Park. Get Rewarded and Calentita are on my shortlist for this race on the grass. Get Rewarded is the betting favorite from the No. 1 post position. She has two wins in her career, with wins at Tampa Bay Downs on April 28, 2019 and April 10, 2020 at Gulfstream Park.
Get Rewarded has been rather inconsistent. That’s my problem with her. In her previous six races, she has finished 8th, 4th, 8th, 1st, 2nd, 6th. She followed up that win for 2nd on May 9 to finish behind Sand Drift by ¾ lengths. That was a $20,000 event and this is in the same class, so you have to expect something similar.
Following that effort, Get Rewarded finished 6th on June 7 in a $47,000 race. That was beyond her race, so she’s wisely back down in class again. The last time Get Rewarded was racing in this class she ran well, so I don’t see why she can’t today. Calentita is her biggest threat to a win in this one. Calentita is 2 for 6 in her career and in search of a hat-trick on Sunday.
Calentita is in great form with wins on April 23 and June 21. She beat Lasaka by 1 ¼ lengths and then followed up for another win in June. In that event, Calentita defeated Zodiac Princess by a neck in a $22,000 event. Calentita has looked good in the morning in July, with times of 47.15 and 49.40 seconds over 4 furlongs. I’m on board with the No. 10 horse in Race 2.

Race 3 is hopefully the final leg of a Pick 3 win for us at Gulfstream Park on Sunday. This is a race reserved for inexperienced 2-year-old fillies. Oh Deborah, Ruthies Racer, and Silver Package are on my shortlist for the event. Oh Deborah is getting fairly attractive odds at 5/1. She is making her debut on Sunday, and may be able to come up hard on the rest of the field. Her workouts in the morning suggest that she is ready to punch in on Sunday and go to work. Oh Deborah has completed some good workouts going into this one.
She completed 4 furlongs with times of 48.64, 49.26, and 48.1 seconds in June and July. At 5 furlongs, Oh Deborah ran fairly confidently for a time of 1:01.84. I think she’s going to be a player in Race 3 despite the morning-line odds. Ruthies Racer was a $20,000 purchase in September of 2019.
Ruthies Racer has had some promising workouts in the morning and could be near the front as well. Ruthies Racer completed two 4-furlong workouts with a time of 49.87 and 49.41 seconds. She also ran 3 furlongs with a time of 37.20 seconds. Earlier in May, she was running 4 furlongs at 50+ seconds, so improvements have been noted.
Silver Package is making her sophomore run today after a promising debut on June 6. She was solid enough to place 2nd as a first-time runner in a $44,000 event. Silver Package has looked strong in the morning as well, with recorded times of 48.90, 49.25, and 49.12 seconds over 4 furlongs, along with a 3-furlong workout of 36.33 seconds. After placing 2nd, Silver Package gets a slightly easier assignment on Sunday. I’m willing to back her in this spot.
