Horse racing opens up some more on Wednesday, as we have seven racecourses open for racing. There wasn’t much on Monday and Tuesday, but fortunately the track heats up today. BetOnline has seven tracks on the docket, with Gulfstream Park the biggest player out of the bunch offering a racecard. Gulfstream Park has a $200,000 and four $100,000 stakes races on Saturday. The running of the Holy Bull Stakes (Gr. 3) is one of three $200,000 events Saturday in the US.
The feature race of the weekend is on Sunday at Sam Houston Park. It’s a big day at Sam Houston with a couple of $200,000, a $100,000, and $300,000 stakes races in Houston on Sunday. The running of the Houston Ladies Classic (Gr. 3) is the feature race of the weekend in the US. The feature race of the year is coming up in Saudi Arabia with the running of the $20,000,000 Saudi Cup next month. We will get started at Gulfstream Park on Wednesday with a few picks in Hallandale Beach. Gulfstream Park has $309,000 in prize money available on this card. Head below for our free Gulfstream Park picks for January 27, 2021.

Race 2 is a $20,000 event covering 6 furlongs on the main track. Seven horses are scheduled to run 6 furlongs on the dirt for the top prize out of this $20,000 purse. Saved At the Wire and Miss Mikaela are likely contenders for the top prize in Race 1. Saved At the Wire is winless in four races, but was in her best form recently on November 19 at Woodbine.
After finishing 6th, 5th, 6th, Saved At the Wire showed 3rd in a $48,300 event. That was a tough race, but Saved At the Wire showed up nicely. Expect another bold performance from Saved At the Wire on Wednesday afternoon. She is in easier territory in this one and should handle this field even better on Wednesday. Miss Mikaela has finished 2nd, 2nd, 3rd in her career for a nice opening stretch.
As a rookie, she placed 2nd behind Palmgirl by 6 ¾ lengths for a $41,500 event in August. She followed up a month later to place 2nd again, this time behind Maystart by 8 ½ lengths in a $41,500 event. In her most recent, she showed 3rd in a $32,000 race. This is a step down for Miss Mikaela in distance and class. That should help get her into the winner’s circle in her easiest outing to date.

Race 6 is a $40,000 event on the main track covering 7 furlongs. Six horses are scheduled to run, with Famous Gent and Sir Ollie on my like list. Famous Gent is 1 for 8 in his career and is running consistently recently. He has shown 3rd in his last three outings.
In his most recent, Famous Gent finished 3rd in a $40,000 event on January 7. Prior to that effort, he did the same in a $47,000 assignment. Expect Famous Gent to run a close race in this one. It’s hard to see him not running good in this performance based on recent form.
Sir Ollie is a one-time starter and he made the most of it with a bold showing on December 31 at Gulfstream. He beat Joshy Jak by a neck for a $40,000 prize. He wore down his foe with nice kick going into the stretch. Sir Ollie was 5th at the ½ pole and moved up nicely to the front. Expect a similar performance from Sir Olline on Wednesday afternoon.

Race 8 is a mile race for a $23,000 purse on the dirt. Nine horses are scheduled to run, with Candy Crushem and Brasstown should give a good account in this one. Candy Crushem is 6 for 26 in his career and has finished 2nd, 6th, 4th, 1st in his previous four assignments. He is coming off a win on December 31, as Candy Crushem struck the field down in a $25,000 race in a blowout.
Candy Crushem cleared the field by the ¾ pole, and then ran up the score for a 7 length win. It was a nice response after Candy Crushem finished 4th on December 3 in another $25,000 event. Which Candy Crushem are we going to see on Wednesday? If it’s the horse we just saw recently, then a win is going to be well within reach.
Brasstown is on a nice tear with six performances in the top-3, including four in the top-2 and two wins. He is coming off a strong outing on December 23 for a win over Turn On the Magic by 6 ¼ lengths for a $31,000 purse. It was a nice win for Brasstown after showing 3rd on November 7 in a $20,000 assignment. I would back Brasstown to score the win here.
