Keeneland Selections for April 14, 2021 – Horse Racing Picks

Keeneland Selections for April 14, 2021 – Horse Racing Picks

There is a decent selection of racing cards on Wednesday in the US. BetOnline has nine racecourses open for wagering today. If you’re a Gulfstream Park fan, then you aren’t going to find the Hallandale Beach based track on the schedule, though. There is Keeneland if you’re searching for one of the bigger racecourses this afternoon.

Essential Quality won the $1,000,000 Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland a couple of weeks ago. He’s my favorite to win the Kentucky Derby, and his odds to win have been going up since then. Don’t count Bob Baffert out of the fray just yet, though. If it plays out like last year, Essential Quality could fall out while Concert Tour wins as a “sleeper”.

A few horses at Keeneland are on my Wednesday tickets. Keeneland has eight races scheduled for $373,000 in prize money. If you are looking for more horse racing picks, then head over to our Indiana Grand page for three horses. Head below for our free Keeneland picks for April 14, 2021.

Race 3 is our first selection at Keeneland on Wednesday afternoon. Someday Jones and Mubarmaj should have a strong chance of winning in this event. Someday Jones is 12 for 34 in his career, with his most recent win on December 10. He beat Malibu Pro by a nose for a $60,000 purse for a nice effort in that race.

Someday Jones has finished 3rd, 3rd, 5th since then. In his most recent attempt, Someday Jones finished 5th in a $84,000 event. That was a tougher race and Someday Jones couldn’t keep up. Down in class on Wednesday, expect Someday Jones to run close at the wire. Mubarmaj is likely going to be Someday Jones’ biggest threat in Race 3.

Mubarmaj was purchased for $375,000 in 2017 and has been just okay in his career. He was a back-to-back winner on September 12, 2019 and October 14, 2019. In the October win, Mubarmaj beat Gio d’Oro by 2 ¾ lengths in a $77,000 event. Overall, he’s 2 for 5, going 6th and 6th since the win. Mubarmaj finished 6th in his return after a layoff on February 27. Down to a $46,000 from a $65,000 race, Mubarmaj should beat this field.

(9) High Fashion
+500 (5/1)

Post Time: 3:51 p.m. EST
Distance:1 1/16 Miles
Purse:$30,000

Race 6 is a $30,000 event covering 1 1/16 miles on the main track. High Fashion and Deemed Essential are horses to pay attention to in this race. High Fashion has finished 6th, 6th, 7th, 7th, 2nd in her career. In her most recent performance, High Fashion placed 2nd behind Len Lo Lady by 10 ½ lengths in a $39,000 event.

No one was close to Len Lo Lady in that race, but it was a good performance for High Fashion in that class. It’s the first race that High Fashion has finished top-3. We’ll see if she can use that confidence and carry it over to a $30,000 event on Wednesday afternoon.

Deemed Essential should put up a pretty big fight against High Fashion. Deemed Essential has finished 2nd, 2nd, 5th, 4th in her career. She started off nice, placing 2nd in back-to-back events for a couple of $46,000 purses. In her most recent showing, Deemed Essential finished 4th for a $50,000 assignment.

After struggling to get into the money, she is dropping to a $30,000 race on Wednesday. You have to believe that she is going to be able to navigate through this field. Only four races into her career, the young $125,000 filly still has a chance of going well. Todd Pletcher and John Valasquez likely get into the winner’s circle in this event.

Race 7

(1) Final Cut
+1500 (15/1)
(2) Stunning Sky
+200 (2/1)
(3) Amazima
+1000 (10/1)
(4) Joy Epifora
+300 (3/1)
(5) Alnaseem
+1200 (12/1)
(6) Winter Sunset
+400 (4/1)
(7) Temple City Terror
+300 (3/1)
(8) His Glory
+200 (2/1)

Post Time: 4:24 p.m. EST
Distance:1 1/16 Miles
Purse:$85,000

The feature race at Keeneland is a $85,000 event on the turf. Eight horses are expected to run 1 1/16 miles for the top prize in this event. Temple City Terror and Stunning Sky should run a strong race here. Temple City Terror is 3 for 18 in her career, with all three of her most recent performances being stakes races.

She finished 6th, 2nd, 7th in those races, the best of which was the $100,000 Albert M. Stall Memorial Stakes on February 13. Temple City placed 2nd behind Dalika by 1 length in that outing. It was a promising effort for her, but struggled in her next assignment on March 20 in the $150,000 Tom Benson Memorial Stakes. That was too tough for Terror City Terror, as she finished 7th.

Before going stakes racing, Terror City Terror won four races back on December 3. She defeated In Good Spirits by a neck for a $44,000 purse. After entering three stakes events, she dips down to a $85,000 event on Wednesday. Stunning Sky is likely going to be her biggest threat. She has graded experience, and has run in 11 straight stakes events.

Stunning Sky won on October 16 in the $150,000 Pin Oak Valley View Stakes (Gr. 2). That was a half length win for the determined filly. She has finished 4th, 5th, 2nd since then, placing 2nd behind Morning Molly by a head in the $75,000 Jersey Lilly Turf Stakes. This should be a winnable assignment for her on Wednesday afternoon.
