The Arkansas Derby is quickly approaching on Saturday with the final prep race on the Road to the Kentucky Derby. The 170-point event is the final race available to get into the Kentucky Derby. There is still the Lexington Stakes, though the winning team is only getting 20 points compared to 100 points in the Arkansas Derby. The Arkansas Derby is also a big Grade 1 event that comes with a $1,000,000 purse. You can find one of the favorites for the Kentucky Derby running in the Arkansas Derby in Concert Tour. If you are somebody who only cares about Triple Crown season, and that’s most casual horse racing fans, then the Arkansas Derby should be of interest.
Oaklawn Park opens its weekend card on Thursday in Hot Springs. This is a small card compared to what you’re going to find on Saturday. We are going to start on Thursday in Lexington at Keeneland, though. Keeneland has nine races with a total of $430,000 in prize money available this afternoon. Head below for our free Keeneland Daily Double and Pick 3 for April 8, 2021.

Distance:4 ½ Furlongs
Race 2 is a $60,000 event on the dirt covering 4 ½ furlongs. This is a race for the rookies, with every horse making their racetrack debut on Thursday. Shesgotattitude and Twilight Gleaming should have a strong push in the stretch. Shesgotattitude is winless, but yeah, that’s going to happen when you haven’t participated in an event before.
Her effort in workouts has been held in good form for John Ennis. Shesgotattitude was timed at 47.40 seconds at 4 furlongs and 34 seconds at 3 furlongs. That’s the only 4-furlong workout she has made, but that said, if she runs like that on race day Thursday, then a winning trip is not out of the equation.
She will most likely be tested by the $900,000 Twilight Gleaming. Twilight Gleaming is expected to have a big career for Wesley Ward. Wesley is one of the best trainers out there working with juveniles and having these young runners ready to go. Don’t be surprised to see a duel unfold at Keeneland in Race 2, with Twilight Gleaming edging out Sheshotattitude in the final half furlong.

Race 3 is a mile race for a $24,000 purse at Keeneland. Keep an eye out for Franknjymme and Lastchanceatglory in this race. Franknjymme is 2 for 21 in his career, with his most recent win on March 19 at Oaklawn Park.
He beat Determinant by ¾ lengths for a $90,000 purse in an impressive effort. That hoped to signal a bright future, but Franknjymme has gone off the grid with results of 6th, 5th, 3rd, 6th since then. Franknjymme showed 3rd in a $17,000 event two races back on December 26.
Franknjymme returned on March 3 in a $36,000 event, finishing 6th in a disappointing effort. All the way down to a $17,000 race on Thursday, this should give him a much better opportunity to arrive in the winner’s circle. His biggest threat here has to be Lastchanceatglory from the outside. Lastchanceatglory is 2 for 13 in his career, with a win three races ago on November 14.
He beat Jacks Fire Balls by a neck for a $33,000 purse. Lastchanceatglory has gone 3rd and 8th since that win. In his most recent outing, Lastchanceatglory finished 8th on January 29. After a brief layoff and down in class, expect a lot more out of Lastchanceatglory on Thursday.

Race 4 is the final leg of our multi-race bet on Thursday. Trickizar and Radiantrithym must be held in high regard in this race. Trickizar is 8 for 37 in her career, and has finished 4th, 4th, 1st, 4th in her previous four entries. She was a winner on February 4 with a half length win for $14,000. However, that is sandwiched between two 4th place finishes.
In her most recent entry, Trickizar was 4th in a $17,500 event. Despite this being a $20,000 race, Trickizar should be able to have a better run at the top prize against this competition. Having said that, Radiantrithym is awfully hot right now and should have a good chance of striking. Radiantrithym has finished 2nd, 1st, 1st, 5th, 1st in her previous five attempts.
Radiantrithym is a winner in three of her previous four outings. In her most recent attempt, Radiantrithym beat Templement by 1 length in a $14,000 assignment. She also won a $21,450 event by 8 ¾ lengths and a head over Its Cold in Dehere in a $33,000 event. In other words, she is more than capable of winning at this level. I would ride with Radiantrithym to drive hard in the stretch to pick up another win.
