Laurel Park Selections for January 29, 2021 – Horse Racing Picks

If you like playing every racetrack on the board, then you’re going to be busy on Friday. There is a lot of racing to get to, with 11 tracks available for wagering at BetOnline. Laurel Park and Turf Paradise both peak my interest. We have a couple of picks at Turf Paradise, along with two more at Laurel Park in Maryland. If you don’t like what’s happening in Arizona or Maryland, then there is more than enough action elsewhere in the US.

It’s a quiet stakes racing day, but just wait a month for what’s to come in Saudi Arabia. The second edition of the $20,000,000 Saudi Cup, highlighted by Bob Baffert’s Bob Baffert, is scheduled. In other news, Authentic took Horse of the Year for a three-year-old honors, and retired after a short but impressive career. I thought it was possible Authentic would have retired following the Saudi Cup, though the owners had other ideas. Swiss Skydiver took home Filly of the Year honors. Both selections were no brainers, leaving no controversy.

Laurel Park has eight races slated for Friday worth a total of $225,000 in prize money. Check out our Turf Paradise page, if you are looking for more horse racing picks on Friday. Head below for our free Laurel Park picks for January 29, 2021.

Post Time: 1:53 p.m. EST
Distance:1 Mile
Purse:$25,000

Race 4 is our first selection at Laurel Park on Friday afternoon. This is a mile event for a $25,000 purse on the dirt. Girls Love Me and Air Token are going to present bold bids in this one. Based on recent form, they should be able to anyway. Girls Love Me is 4 for 13 in his career, with his most recent win on December 19, the last trip to the gate for him. In his previous five outings, Girls Love Me has gone 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 5th, 1st.

That is a nice run by Girls Love Me, having finished in the top-2 in four of his previous five entries. He beat Baptize the Boy by a half length for a $32,600 prize in his last assignment. Girls Love Me was stalking throughout the race and then struck at the perfect moment in the stretch. This race represents a class drop, after a win in a higher class, but unfortunately he will have to deal with Air Token. Without Air Token in this race, you’d find that Girls Love Me would likely be the clear choice.

Air Token is a stakes racer that is dropping in class for this assignment. He has won 5 for 15 races in his career, and was a hat-trick winner from November 7 to December 13. Following that stretch, AIr Token hit the stakes scene and didn’t find the same results. He finished 4th in the $100,000 Native Dancer Stakes on December 26, and then returned on January 16 to finish 7th in the $75,000 Jennings Stakes. Following a class drop, expect Air Token to clear this field.

Post Time: 2:49 p.m. MST
Distance:1 Mile
Purse:$17,000

Race 4 is our first selection at Laurel Park on Friday afternoon. This is a mile event for a $25,000 purse on the dirt. Deep Red and Trunk of Money are going to present bold bids in this one. Based on recent form, they should be able to anyway. Deep Red is 5 for 25 in her career, with her latest win on March 15, 2019. That was eight races ago.

Despite the cold dry with regard to going to the winner’s circle, Deep Red has been a consistent runner and picking up show and place money often. Deep Red has finished in the top-3 in five of his previous six performances, including placing thrice. She placed 2nd behind Gifted Heart by 1 length in a $58,365 event. Not a bad effort at all racing in that class. Deep Red should be right there at the wire with another effort like that.

Trunk of Money is in terrific form at the moment and should continue to run well. She is 6 for 20 in her career and in her best form at the moment. Trunk of Money has finished in the top-3 in six straight performances, which includes a hat-trick from September 12 to November 8. Her quest for a fourth straight win was stopped most recently on December 18.

While Trunk of Money couldn’t find the winner’s circle four times in a row, she stands a good chance of getting back on a winning path on Friday. She placed 2nd behind Fille d’Espirit by 1 ¾ lengths in her most recent outing on December 18. That was a $60,930 assignment, so she is being eased considerably in class today. I would side with Trunk of Money to strike in the stretch in this beatable event.
