We have a limited card on Tuesday on the horse racing circuit, but that is to be expected early in the week. Things will begin to warm up on Wednesday, and then as we dig into the weekend, the options are wide ranging, which includes the elite racecourses. There isn’t any elite racing on Tuesday, but still an opportunity to find winning horses.
Our foray into the elite racing scene on Saturday was a big success, as Go Knicks cleared the field with ease to win the Pegasus World Cup. Colonel Liam came through a race earlier in the Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational. That’s how you start off the first marquee Grade 1 stakes events in 2021. We will have to wait until late February for the next elite event that I’m looking forward to. That will take place in Saudi Arabia with the running of the Saudi Cup.

Louisiana is in our crosshairs on Tuesday, with selections at Delta Downs and Louisiana Downs. Half of the racecourses offered at BetOnline today are available in Louisiana. Louisiana Downs has seven races on the schedule worth a total of $47,800 in prize money. This is quarter horse racing, so that’s the difference between Delta Downs. It’s a modest pool on Thursday, but let’s find some winners anyway. Head below for our free Louisiana Downs picks for January 26, 2021.
Race 1
Post Time: 1:00 p.m. CST
Distance:220 Yards
Purse:$3,300
In the first quarter horse race at Louisiana Downs on Tuesday afternoon, ten horses will dash 220 yards for the top prize in Race 1. The two horses on the opposite side of the gate, Ima Bulletproof Jess and Dlj Rusty Cartel should have a good showing for the top prize. Ima Bulletproof Jess is winless in seven outings in her career. She has yet to finish in the top-3 and show in her career. In her previous three races, Ima Bulletproof Jess went 4th, 4th, 7th.
She has been racing up in class, so this assignment should be much more manageable. Ima Bulletproof Jess finished 7th in a $6,000 event on December 11 with a time of 12.409 seconds at 220 yards. Prior to that effort, she was better for 4th in a $10,000 race with a time of 20.881 seconds at 400 yards. Note that Ima Bulletproof Jess is going to be in one of the easiest races of her career today, so she has to be considered.
Rusty Cartel is winless as well, but has proven to be able to get into the top-3 and show. He has finished 7th, 5th, 3rd, 6th, 5th, 3rd in six outings. Rusty Cartel showed 3rd in his most recent entry on December 18 for a $7,000 purse. He was clocked at 15.832 seconds in the 300-yard event. Preceding that effort, Rusty Cartel finished 5th in a $6,000 event with a time of 16.002 seconds at 300 yards. If he runs how he did in December, then he should nip this field at the wire.
Race 2
Post Time: 1:24 p.m. CST
Distance:870 Yards
Purse:$3,300
In Race 2 on Tuesday, we have a 870-yard race for a $3,300 purse. Rockin Bye Chocolate and Alekat Romance should run well in this long sprint. Rockin Bye Chocolate has been in better form recently, finishing 3rd, 3rd, 4th, 3rd in her previous four entries. She is winless in nine races, but has been getting closer recently.
In her most recent performance, Rockin Bye Chocolate showed 3rd in a $6,000 event. She was timed at 28.909 seconds at 550 yards. That was an impressive performance by Rockin Bye Chocolate, but only good to show. Down in class, though, expect Rockin Bye Chocolate to run a stronger race in this event.
Alekat Romance is winless in seven races, but has come really close recently. She has finished 2nd and 3rd in her previous two trips, placing 2nd on September 26 in a $5,000 event. Alekat Romance was clocked at 13.592 yards in an impressive run in a 250-yard dash. In her most recent, Alekat Romance showed 3rd in a $6,000 race, with a time of 49.614 seconds at 870 yards. That would be enough in this class.
Race 5
Post Time: 2:36 p.m. CST
Distance:220 Yards
Purse:$11,300
Race 5 is the feature race at Louisiana Downs on Tuesday. This is going to likely be a dash between Modelo Negra and A Political Rose. Modelo Negra has finished 6th, 2nd, 1st in her career. She has shown improvement with each race after going 6th as a rookie runner on August 2. Following that event, Modelo Negra placed 2nd in a $14,000 assignment as an underdog.
She was able to come back on December 3 and prove that it was no fluke. Modelo Negra got the win in a $8,000 event, with a time of 11.881 seconds at 220 yards. It was an easier race, but Modelo Negra still raced in good form. Following that outing, Modelo Negra enters a race somewhere between the one she placed 2nd and won to even things out. It should still be winnable at the $11,300 level.
A Political Rose drops considerably in class after six straight stakes races, including graded events. In her most recent showing, A Political Rose finished 4th in the $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day QH Juvenile Stakes (Gr. 2). She has been 4th in three straight performances, all of which were tough stakes races. This should be much easier in comparison. I would side with A Political Rose to hit the wire ahead of this field.
