Sunday could have been a huge day, but we had to settle for two near wins on multi-bet wagers. The Pick 4 at Gulfstream Park came a horse away from hitting, and we split the Daily Double at Lone Star Park. There’s a couple of ways to read into that. It sucks not to hit a big payday obviously, but if you’re grinding away just playing horses to win, show, and place, you will take that everyday. Most people treat a multi-bet as more of a side bet, sort of like at table games for a smaller sum, to go along with main wagers. I mix it up, but typically bet straight wagers to go along with my multi-bet tickets. Between Louisiana Downs and Thistledown on Monday, I have a total of six picks offered.
The one big score continues to carry my horse racing bankroll. We cashed a Pick 5 at Churchill Downs on May 23, which holds up as our biggest win of the year. All you needed was 2 bucks to make $1,659.40. That was a bittersweet day, as it would have been an unbelievable day with a win on the Pick 6. That ticket came a place short of winning, with Get the Prize finishing placing 2nd. $2.00 would have resulted in $6,279.40 out of the pool. One day, and hopefully one day we can cash a unique ticket in the Rainbow Pick 6. As far as Monday is concerned, I’m just trying to grind out some single wager winners. Race 1 will offer a $8,000 purse at Louisiana Downs on Monday. The day will start on the turf in Louisiana with 11 horses getting the call for the event. Elevententeetime and Glance, who are on opposite ends of the gate, are both expected to show good things on the grass today. Glance drops in class after finding no success recently. She isn’t taking a monumental drop, but this is going to be an easier assignment than she’s seen in the last year. Malibu Moira might be able to make this one interesting as well. She has 3 wins in 10 races and drops in class after finishing 7th in her most recent performance.
Glance has finished 6th, 4th, 5th, 5th, 8th in her previous five races. Prior to that bad stretch, Glance finished 1st, 1st, 3rd, 1st. Now, he’s not going to have the privilege of racing against that easy of a field, but it’s going to be easier than the last several events. There hasn’t been anything wrong with her workouts recently, but might need to find just a little more in the tank to get past the horse lining up in the No. 1 post position on Monday. Elevententeetime is going to prove to be a worthy challenge in this one for Glance.
Elevententeetime is on a roll and looking for more in this contest. She has won 3 of her previous 4 races and is in a similar race today. In her latest outing on June 6, Elevententeetime won by 2 lengths over Cindy’s Prayer. She swooped in and stole the wire-to-wire win from Cindy’s Prayer, who was a fairly heavy favorite in that event. Elevententeetime closed at +550 and had a minor upset win in that one. This race might even be a bit easier than that race, which was just over a week ago. Expect Elevententeetime to be in similar form. That should be enough to propel her to the winner’s circle.

Race 2 is the first race on the dirt at Louisiana Downs on Monday. Seven horses are scheduled to go 5 ½ furlongs for a $8,500 purse. Belmar Beauty, Starlight Sister, and Dreaming of Curlin should be involved in this race. Dreaming of Curlin has finished 2nd, 5th, 3rd in her career. I think she is going to be stalking in this one, and is going to need great kick in the final stretch, but is capable of delivering. She is coming off a 4-furlong workout on June 6, finishing in 50 seconds for an average performance. That could very well be enough versus this field, though.
Starlight Sister takes a drop in class after going 11th, 5th, 6th to open her career at Fair Grounds. That was a struggle for Starlight Sister at Fair Grounds, but she was entered into some tough events. That’s not to say that this is going to be particularly simple for her, though. This was a cheap pony purchased for just $2,000 in September of 2017.
The fact they turned her into a horse that is running at Fair Grounds and Louisiana Downs is impressive in itself. His most recent workout on June 4 was not a head turner. He finished 5 furlongs with a time of 1:04.20. Note that Starlight Sister hasn’t raced since February 7, so the best form indicator we have to come on is her recent workouts. From what we’ve seen, Dreaming of Curlin gets the edge over Straylight Sister.
Belmar Beauty enters Monday in good form after coming close in her first three races. She placed in her debut outing on December 26, 2019. That finish put her a neck behind Bar Tap for the win. Belbar Beauty was coupled with Bar Tap in that event. Both were hefty underdogs at +860 by post time, but each of them dominated the field.
She followed that up to show in 3rd on January 17, and in her most recent performance, Belmar Beauty came close again to lose by a length against Heart River. Heart River was a heavy favorite in that race and took care of business, but the +250 Belbar Beauty nearly had her. With a transfer to Louisiana Downs since then, Belmar Beauty should be in easier company on Monday.

For our final pick of the day at Louisiana Downs on Monday, a bit of a duel might be shaping up in Race 4. At least a duel until one horse I see pulling away and clearing the field. Miss Cissy and Our Slick Chick should not be contenders to ignore on Monday afternoon at Louisiana Downs in Race 4.
Miss Cissy has a tough road for a win, but should have a chance to seize the opportunity at the top of the stretch. She is coming off a nice performance on February 28 to place and get in the top-2 for the first time in six races. Miss Cissy lost that event by 3 ½ lengths against the favorite Perfectly Precious. She finished where she was supposed to.Overall, she is 2 for 13 in her career, with her most recent win at Delta Downs on October 9, 2019. She also won back on December 21, 2018 as a heavy favorite.
In both of her wins, Miss Cissy was a heavy favorite and did what the odds indicated. And when she’s lost in her career, the odds have painted out a picture of what she’s going to do. She is still looking for an upset, even as a small underdog. If that trend continues for Miss Cissy, then she’ll end up coming just short again on Monday. Miss Cissy has a tough chore to get past Our Slick Chick at the wire in Race 4.
Our Slick Chick is 2 for 15 races in her career and takes a considerable drop in class for Monday. After finishing in the top-3 in five straight races, Our Slick Chick chased bigger purses at Golden Gate Fields and Oaklawn Park. Her most recent victory was on October 21, 2018 at Santa Anita Park, seven races ago for Our Slick Chick.
She has raced against some pretty tough talent in the past at Del Mar, Santa Anita, Golden Gate, and Oaklawn Park. Louisiana Downs will be the easiest competition she has seen. A recent workout in May was encouraging, with Our Slick Chick completing 4 furlongs at 49.60 seconds. Miss Cissy just ran 4 furlongs at 49.80 and 50 seconds in May and June. Look for Miss Cissy to lose a close one to Our Slick Chick.
