We are back at Mountaineer Park on Wednesday night in West Virginia. I feel like I alway find my way to Mountaineer Park during the week. It’s one of my favorite tracks to play on weekdays. Last night could have been better, but was able to generate a small profit on a split. I had two horses running on Tuesday night and one came through, while another was barely stopped. Nothing wrong with grinding out a small win.
Mountaineer Park and Charles Town typically take turns racing in West Virginia, but tonight we’re going to get both in action. It’s nice for racing in West Virginia, but I don’t believe either tracks like the other purging away potential bettors. I’ve generally had more success at Mountaineer than Charles Town, so will continue to look at the horses in New Cumberland. There is also a hotel and casino attached to Mountaineer Park, so you can make a trip out of going to the racecourse.
$25 Risk-Free Horse Racing Bet!
Mountaineer Park has a total of nine races on the docket worth a total of $74,000 in New Cumberland on Wednesday. I like a couple of horses from the card. I’d like to take a third horse, but nothing really jumps out at me right now. Later on leading up to the races I might make a play somewhere, though. If you are looking for more horse racing selections on Wednesday, TheSportsGeek has you covered at Delta Downs today as well. Head below for our free Mountaineer Park picks for December 9, 2020.
Race 4
Post Time: 8:06 p.m. EST
Distance:1 Mile
Purse:$6,900
An event for $6,900 on the dirt will get us started at Mountaineer Park on Wednesday night. Race 4 features seven horses racing for the top prize. Eyes should be on Miss Bombon and Gunboat Diplomacy in the stretch. Miss Bombon is 2 for 15 in her career, and hasn’t been in the winner’s circle since June 22. She has finished in the top-3 only twice in eight races since the win. However, this event on Wednesday should be a lot more manageable. In her last performance, Miss Bombon finished 4th in a $9,900 event.
There was no rally for Miss Bombon in that race. Down in class for Wednesday’s performance, expect a better effort out of Miss Bombon on Thursday. Gunboat Diplomacy is 2 for 19 in her career and feeling after winning on November 25 for a $6,800 purse by a half length. That was a wire-to-wire win for Gunboat Diplomacy in impressive fashion. This was after Gunboat Diplomacy showed 3rd. This shouldn’t be a tricky race for Gunboat Diplomacy. If she runs how she did in her most recent performance, then a win should not be ruled out.
Race 7
Post Time: 9:12 p.m. EST
Distance:5 ½ Furlongs
Purse:$7,300
Race 7 at Mountaineer Park runs for 5 ½ furlongs for a $7,300 purse. Madeye and Wizard Willie are expected to run sharp races in this one. Madeye is back at Mountaineer Park and should be able to run well here after finishing 4th and 6th in his previous two outings. Madeye was a winner on September 16 for a $8,900 purse. Since that performance, Madeye has finished 4th and 6th.
In his most recent performance, Madeye was 6th in a $9,100 assignment. It was a smart move to put Madeye back down in class today. He should be able to run a much smarter race on Wednesday at this level. Before going 4th and 6th, Madeye had finished in the top-3 in four of five performances. Madeye will likely be joined by Wizard Willie in the stretch, who should run a strong race here as well.
Wizard Willie has finished in the top-3 in five of his last six entries. He was a winner on August 31 at Thistledown in a $8,900 event by 1 ½ lengths. He shook clear in the stretch after overtaking Southern Spirit. Wizard Willie hasn’t been able to win since, but has still been running some quality races. In his most recent outing, he placed 2nd behind Tbtwelve for a $7,300 purse by a half length. That was a big upset, with Wizard Willie losing as the favorite. Wizard Willie should be able to respond with a win on Wednesday.
